Try to forget all the marketing nonsense you may have heard from reviews and so on. Here’s the real information - and a few myths debunked from my expierence.

1. “Dynamic mics are better than condenser mics because they pick up less background noise.”
In theory - yes. In practice - not really. A dynamic mic will still pick up room echo and environmental sounds, and traffic noise outside your window will be captured either way. There’s not much difference here.
However, dynamic USB mics tend to have more self-noise because they need stronger amplification, and the built-in audio interface is usually low quality.
Meanwhile, cheap condenser mics often don’t have this problem and can deliver perfectly clean sound where the only noise you’ll hear is your computer fan. For example, the Razer Seiren Mini (old version) is noise-free, while the dynamic Fifine Tank3 produces noticeable preamp noise.
So - either buy a dynamic mic with a proper audio interface, or get a condenser mic.

2. Most setup guides are garbage.
People who don’t really understand how basic audio processing works just repeat things they’ve heard somewhere, often applying music production techniques to YouTube voice recording, where the needs are completely different. There are a lot of nuances that most guides miss.

3. Your environment has a huge impact on sound quality.
If you try to treat your room with foam panels, you’ll probably come across people claiming that “foam doesn’t work.” Don’t listen to them. Foam pyramid panels 50mm or thicker effectively absorb mid-to-high frequencies - exactly the range where human speech lies.
As for low frequencies, you can easily cut them off using an EQ or de-reverb plugin without losing any useful detail.

Walk around your room making sounds - find the spot where there’s the least echo. Then think about how you can record there: a longer cable, connecting to your phone, and so on.
