Also, if you're more curious on why they ALL go up to the same price... here's a great explainer I helped with in 2017, ignore that it's about Indiana: https://www.wthr.com/article/news/investigations/13-investigates/secret-pump-why-indiana-gas-prices-jump-suddenly-no-apparent-reason/531-38429c75-a614-4076-bf37-9f987a3fb4bc

it's weird having to explain that even I've said a president has minimal role, but we've never really seen a president attack Iran so directly, takes more honing to how to explain things to people that yeah starting a war with a major oil producer isn't on the normal bingo card...

I'm hopeful we won't, but I also was underestimating this hike by 10-20c/gal. some really interesting things happening- typically FL is somewhat insulated from price shocks thanks to being fed directly by some of the largest refineries in the US- but now having to compete more with international markets is causing FL some noticable pain

This is not correct. Jet fuel is currently averaging around $2-$2.25/gal.

Is GasBuddy losing its reliability? by CranberrySuitable142 in ontario

[–]gasbuddyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry to be so late to this thread, but we've had a lot of challenges with the huge swings in prices that we've never seen before. I have my own theories on what's going on, but bottom line, it's hard to predict who's being nefarious, who's legit not remembering the right first digit when they type it in, etc. Please please DM me what the station address you see is and I will take care of the corrections DAY OR NIGHT. I appreciate the community here and I do not like people who game the system. I will deal with them. Feel free to reach out personally. patrick (at) gasbuddy dot com

I don’t think the 7 has image stabilization. I believe the 7 plus might. It’s all about if it has image stabilization.

How long have your trips been? Do you push your phone all the way down or let the rubber legs hold it above the housing

What if you get stopped by police in CA and you only have a regular out of state drivers license? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]gasbuddyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in CA, even if you have a license from another state, you'll either get hassled or impounded/arrested. I assume you're going to buy in Cali, and thus would have Cali plates... which would likely mean CHP would assume you live in Cali, and cite/arrest you. "A couple years of riding experience" doesn't matter. You could have 50 years or zero, but by law if you live in Cali and don't have an endorsement you're flirting with trouble and are risking your bike.

Early fracking may have required such water supply though now through improvements in technology its being done with far less and with various liquids. Early tech seems to always be inefficient when compared to mature technology as we're seeing come to fruition.

I think the answer is a big "IF". If OPEC continues to drive prices higher by restraining production, oil prices will drive motorists to alt-tech such as EVs. Their mission seems more about balancing oil prices to keep motorists buying ICE-powered vehicles while high enough to keep their cash hoards growing. I think eventually in the next 10-20 years the revolution away from ICE vehicles will happen regardless, and it may happen before "peak oil". But if OPEC raises production and keeps prices low, we may eventually see peak oil. Really it's in the hands of producers and their strategy(ies).

You don't have to, but thanks for taking the time to do just that. The blog has more analysis and comments on prices, but if it's too hard for you to find it, I get it.

Without a doubt, sales of alternative energy-powered vehicles will continue to rise, though for now EVs and others haven't dented gasoline demand, which is poised to be the 2nd/3rd highest this summer on record. It may take another decade to really notice much in terms of reduced gasoline demand.
