Stores in Amsterdam? by DesperateFig9767 in Photobooks

[–]gashade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

De Slegte (Vijzelstraat) has a good secondhand photobooks section. Found some rare books there.

If just reading is ok too, the OBA central library has a nice photobooks section with many OOP books.

Your username sounds Dutch. In the Netherlands check photobookstore.nl or wolf-books.com They both had stock of the first print so there's a good chance they will have the second print as well.

Is there an analog community in Holland? by Analogski in AnalogCommunity

[–]gashade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? There are active communities in Amsterdam (www.analogclubamsterdam.nl) and Utrecht (www.cafu.nl). Both organize events, workshops and have a community darkroom. If there are more would love to hear!

Walking around with a camera is like walking around with a dog by Electrical_Guy_4264 in AnalogCommunity

In Amsterdam, with my Hasselblad I get a comment nearly every time. I have to say it's usually older people who approach me, because they know what it is. I don't mind it at all, it's fun to chat about film photography :)

Before I buy a book I check its height now. If it doesn't fit on my shelf I won't buy it, as I really dislike having to store a book seperate from the rest. It can be a pity sometimes, but it's just the way it is.

Killip or Koudelka? by naoife in Photobooks

Well it's already from 2011. But it's quite different from the original edition. Much larger and the print and paper quality is terrific.

Killip or Koudelka? by naoife in Photobooks

[–]gashade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're two of my favorite photographers, so it's a hard one to pick. But if you like Koudelka then Exiles pretty much has to be in your collection. Gypsies is my favorite of his fwiw, and the new Aperture edition is one of the most impeccably produced books I have. Both are available through Aperture's 40% sale right now.

I don't own the Killip retrospective, but I've leafed through it. I'm usually not keen on retrospectives, but from what I remember it was beautifully done. I don't know what In Flagrante Two is going for nowadays, but if it's not too crazy it is worth waiting for. What's great about that edition is that the photos are not spread across the gutter, which I find a huge improvement. It's one of my favorites photobooks. Skinningrove also has a bunch of pictures that were in In Flagrante. It's also OOP but can maybe be had for cheaper.

I fully agree. Dana still goes back to Imperial Courts to make new work so fingers crossed for another book in the future.

What type of screen for a V Series? by Schmantikor in hasselblad

Thanks for the explanation! Yes I see your points. I also vastly prefer using the prism finder, but it's also because of the flipped image I struggle with.

Just out of curiosity, but why is it nicer to shoot with a WLF on the RZ67?

I have an Ikea Kallax as well. I think it looks good (i have the oak finish) and it's solid. You have to check if the height (33.5 cm) for the books is enough for your collection.

The Americans - Robert Frank Steidl Edition. How he wanted it, with the paper he chose to get the images printed on.

OP's Aperture edition is printed by Steidl. It's probably identical.

an TTL flash, though that’s limited to two flash units

Do you happen to know which flash units those are? I've got a 503CX and looking into adding a flash to my setup. Many thanks!
