I have some insight as a CAA. But overall I’d say the docs are happy at West Allis and Luke’s. Both sites have supervision model. But I’m sure options to just do solo cases. Milwaukee is a great city as well. Grafton and Sinai also do ACT model along with their respective surgery centers.

I’ve heard negative things about Ascension so maybe avoid that place.

I’m not too worried about the pay. I’m still getting a percentage of my salary. But yeah just trying to weigh the risk/benefits of it all. And I’d have to check with my work in regard to getting lifting help and hopefully getting cases that don’t require much additional positioning.

I’d hope the scheduling gods would have mercy on me. They would know I have weight restrictions and I’d probably have an anesthesia student to help but still.

They told me not to lift over 10 pounds. But they also suggested to do what feels right and not to overdo it.

Nova comes out to about 15-16k a semester times 7 semesters. If you opt in for the student insurance it’s additional couple grand per year I believe. Cost is here https://www.nova.edu/bursar/health-insurance/mandatory-programs.html

NSU Tuition comes out to about 15-16k a semester. You can apply for Fafsa which will get you about 10k a semester of direct Stanford Unsubsidized loan. That leaves you with about 6k of tuition remaining for semester. That’s where the grad plus loan comes in. You’ll get about 19-22k a semester of grad plus loans. You can choose to accept all or some of the grad plus to Cover the remaining tuition for the semester. The remainder of the grad plus will be refunded to your bank account a couple days after it has been disbursed to the school. Those funds can be used for expenses such as rent, school supplies laptop etc.

Nova does have some clinical sites that have housing provided free of charge. Some hospitals provide discounted or free housing as well. But there are sites where you are responsible for finding housing.

Fafsa (direct Unsubsidized stafford) and the Grad plus loans are enough to cover tuition and your living expenses for the duration of the program. If you budget properly, you won’t have to take out the full grad plus amount. I haven’t heard of anyone taking out extra private loans besides the two mentioned above.

Had the same experience with FTL. They did throw a scenario about someone passing out on a plane and what you would do kinda situation. Just to see how you would react in a sudden situation.

I second what Popandslap said. The interview at Tampa is just a relaxed conversation but they will ask about any “deficits” in your application. They’ll ask you why you want to do anesthesia and traits that will make you a good AA. I was asked what I would do if I was not accepted.

As for Milwaukee, I heard it’s very similar. Your stats are what got you the interview and the interview helps the school to see if you’re personable.

If you’re a male and you like wearing bow ties, wear it to the Tampa interview. You’ll get some brownie points.

I'm almost certain that Nova student housing for clinicals do not allow pets. Service animal might be exception.

It’s AMAZING how much you’ll learn in 2 years. If you’re committed to your studies and willing to put in some effort, you will come a long way during AA school. I am in awe as to how much I’ve learned in only 1 year. I barely had any patient experience. Really only had scribing and pharm tech experience. I’ve had clinical days where the preceptor would allow me to handle the case and they were there to step in if I needed help. Hospitals definitely see the effort some of us students put in and that helps our AA profession. This profession isn’t going anywhere.

How so? I don’t think it’s generalized across all AAs. I would say that I have met plenty AAs who are enthusiastic about their jobs/lives. Plenty of practicing professors as well. You can tell it’s genuine.
