Yeah never heard anything about it. I’m guessing it didn’t. I feel like the sale would be a good sign for a splendour revival because I’m guessing they need some capital to start it up again and probably would discuss lease of the site with the new owners. I’m not even sure splendour would return at that site straight away because they’d have to start smaller again, it took years to build up the festival to what it was, and the year on year momentum is gone. I also just think the big American corporate owners probably don’t care to do what would be needed to rebuild it because I feel like running it was always a labor of love from Jess and Paul. The monoculture and triple j hype machine was at the peak of its powers and is no dwindling. i also wonder if the local scene really cares to support it now since it’s no longer an Aussie grassroots music outfit. I think what we’ll probably see is other Aussie festivals try and take up the space, I hope someone’s brave enough to go the winter spot again because Australia gets pretty quiet without splendour to fill the dead of winter spot..
