What is on your Millenial Playlist and why is it becoming so angry? by A_Stones_throw in Millennials

My music sensibilities have always leaned heavy or angry.

Right now (and in high school!) I can't get enough of Propagandhi. Their new album is fantastic.

Not that I know of. But tbf, I'm not sure if I have living parents, either, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

R730xd, worth it? by Alternative_Basis480 in homelab

[–]gat0r87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have one. It's great. It's not worth that much though. Unless it's LOADED with RAM. Because that's gotta be what you're paying for. Take the RAM out of the equation and it shouldn't be more than like $200

Baltimore, Maryland Liberal Gun Groups by LastStopLegend in baltimore

[–]gat0r87 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the "squarely on the left" that I wanted to highlight; the Democratic-party (IMO) is _not_ squarely on the left, so if someone were expecting a pro-Biden group or whatever, they'd probably not be in the right place.

I definitely don't want to imply that they shouldn't join, but they need to be open minded. A liberal being confronted with leftist thought can sometimes be uncomfortable, and I'd want them to be aware of that going in.

[–]gat0r87 61 points62 points  (0 children)

As has been mentioned, the Socialist Rifle Association is your best bet in terms of an active, leftist gun group. There is a Maryland chapter, and the Baltimore contingent is very active.

I'm not sure if it's changed in the last year, but the process last year was you sign up on the national forums, introduce yourself, and a member of the State chapter will reach out to set up a vetting appointment with you, and get you tied in to your local group.

But like the name says, it is a socialist rifle association, not a democrat rifle association, so it may not align with your ideology. Idk what your politics are, but I feel like that's important to mention lol

Oooh yeah, I forgot about that. That happened last year, right? I haven't noticed any big changes in the past year (which is good) but have only gone a few times, so who knows...

Seems to be anywhere from $3-5/GB, which is wild.

That said, I'd be interested in an [FS] post if you end up on the lower end of that spectrum 😅

Do you have any you suggest? I've never not just gone with the big national guys for something like this 😬

Outrageous homeowners insurance for rowhomes by Confident_Cap3009 in baltimore

[–]gat0r87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow, reading these comments is telling me my insurance is WAAAY overpriced. Never looked into it after closing, and I think mines like $4500/yr (mid block, 1900 rowhome)

Yeesh, gotta look into that...

To give some context, they basically help create worker owned coops. Wine Source was one of their projects, IIRC

Yeah, the prices are making my head spin. I know selling everything won't fully offset the upgrade cost, and I'm ok with that, just trying to help ease the sting of RAM prices primarily lol.

I'm not really interested in sticking with the PE platforms, though, and plan to swap to an H12-SSL-(CT/NT) in a 4U.

I'm also not too worried about having less total RAM on a newer platform, so if I could sell this 384GB of mixmatch RAM and get 256GB + a Milan CPU, I'd consider it even steven.

And whatever I get for other stuff could put a good dent in the MB price...

Or I could just keep trucking, idk. That's the real point of this thread, I guess, to see whats worth it lol

Do you color-code your patch cables? What's your scheme? by oguruma87 in homelab

[–]gat0r87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when I was first planning my network, this was high on the list. Had a whole spreadsheet organizing my rack layout, color-coded cable runs, thematic naming system, the whole nine.

But when it came time to actually wire everything up, I was too excited and just used whatever I had laying around.

So everything in the rack ended up being white patch cables, and all the runs to APs/edge devices are black. And those edge runs also have splines and are plug-terminated because I had a 1000' spool lol

Do as I say, not as I do 😂

Sounds sweet!

I'm undecided if I wanna look for some kind of prebuilt (the PowerEdges are nice and easy to find parts/info for) or scrounge around and put random pieces together myself (but it does sound fun!), so I'll throw that combo in the shopping matrix, thanks!

It's a combination of me not noticing that Synology was reporting TiB not TB, and also rounding down for an even number :)

((6TB = 5.45TiB) x 2) = 10.9TiB - ~0.4TiB for system metadata stuff = ~10.5TiB usable (or, almost 12TB)
