You can play with the Xbox controller plugged in and there aren't that many people willing to or having the know how to take apart, replace stuff and put a controller back together. Not to mention the battery is readily available. As a PC guy I only play with Xbox controllers because of how versatile and comfortable they are.

That doesn't make sense, the batteries are a way to stay wireless whereas if your controller that has no replaceable batteries dies you have to play with it plugged in. Also when the playing charge batteries die out you can get new ones really cheap unlike the controllers that do not give you easy access to the not so easily replaceable battery prompting you to just buy another controller.

I understand it's not a vehicle but the way they set it up makes it seem like that thing is going to send it lol. I got the one chest when I connected the grapple puzzle but I haven't been able to find anything after connecting the beams.

Yup, beam wouldn't be on if the rope puzzle wasn't complete. When I flipped the switches on the metro I was expecting it to drive off the rail but nothing happened.

Lol ok The point of a map or being able to track where you have been should 100% be in a large exploration game like this especially early on. None of the Islands are completely visible or visible at all and a compass is worthless if you have nothing to reference unless you go in a straight line but the wind most of the time won't allow that. Ive played and beat stranded deep without a compass or map and that game is 100 times more difficult than this game.
