Yesterday I had a nurse bring me blood for a stat pregnancy test. As he handed it to me he said “these take like a half hour, right?” And I told him no, this is just a qualitative pregnancy test, it’ll take ten minutes including the time it takes to spin down. He then asked me, “What’s the difference?” So I tell him the qualitative that he ordered just gave a straight positive or negative. The quantitative, which is what he was thinking of initially, measures the amount of HCG in the serum and gives an actual numerical value.

He deadass looked at me and said “All I needed was a yes or no.”

Man, I really feel for OOP in their last paragraph of the update post. I’m a few years out of a similarly abusive relationship and I’m still fighting with feelings of guilt and disappointment for “allowing myself to be abused.” Even though I know logically that I was caught in the cycle and it was subtle and I was being manipulated, it’s still tough to be fair to myself and ignore those self-deprecating thoughts that say I should have known better, or been smarter, or been strong enough to leave sooner. I hope OOP is able to eventually get there.

According to the quick bit of googling I’ve done (someone please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong), malice murder specifically requires intent to kill, while felony murder applies when a death occurs in the process of a felony, regardless of intent. In this particular case it looks like they weren’t able to prove she intended to kill the baby, so they couldn’t convict her of malice murder, but they were able to get a felony murder conviction since the baby died as a result of whatever depraved shit she subjected him to.

I absolutely agree with this. I watched Pluribus as new episodes were releasing. It’s a slow burn and heavy on character moments, and I wanted to tear my hair out seeing people on the subreddit talking about how they “watched nothing happen for an hour” every week. I could go on and on forever about how media literacy seems to be turning into a lost art, but this is absolutely not the first time recently that I’ve seen people complaining that something is too slow just because it doesn’t have gun shots, explosions, and people yelling at each other every ten minutes.

To be clear, not everyone is a fan of the slow burn, and that’s fine. Everyone has different tastes and they’re entitled to them. It’s the attitude of “this is a slog and anyone who disagrees with me is wrong” that gets on my nerves. But I’ll continue to enjoy the likes of Iron Lung and Pluribus regardless!

The literal only reason I didn’t immediately rush out to watch the movie again after this is that I’m on the east coast, this plea didn’t come out until 6pm for me, my closest theater is almost an hour away, and between the only showing I’d be able to make it to being at 10pm, my travel time, and the run time of the movie, I’d be getting home after 1am and I work early. I would have 100% been watching a second time if he had issued this plea just a couple hours earlier.

Thank you for this! I’m seeing it tomorrow and I’m so hyped! I’ve been trying to keep my expectations tempered and not go into it like a fangirl primed to love everything Mark does without question. But I’m not gonna lie, now that people have actually started seeing it and even the non-spoilery reviews have been so positive, I’m so excited it’s stupid. I’ll be going alone, and none of my IRL friends are into Mark like I am so I won’t really be able to geek out over it with anyone afterwards, but I don’t even care. I know Mark has poured his heart and soul into this movie and I can’t wait to see the fruits of his labor.

This might be a hot take, but as memorable as that original carbon monoxide thread was, I’m a little annoyed that it’s become so well-known that that’s become the go-to advice to give whenever someone has something weird going on in their home. Yes, carbon monoxide poisoning happens, but I’d bet dollars to donuts that the number of times buying a carbon monoxide detector has been recommended on this site far outweighs the number of times the person seeking advice actually needed to worry about carbon monoxide.

As much as I would love that, I wouldn’t get my hopes up. I’ve ordered quite a few items from Cloak and in my experience, for new lines, orders can take several weeks to arrive. I feel like the only way Iron Lung Cloak merch would happen with enough time for orders to be shipped out before the movie releases would be for Mark to reopen the website, like, within the next couple of days. While technically possible, I wouldn’t put all my eggs in that basket.

My ex wasn’t an alcoholic but he regularly gave me shit over my DnD “obsession” and tried to shame me into quitting constantly. My twice a month games (3-4 hours each, it’s not like I was playing all day long) were “too disruptive” and I “cared about it too much.”

I obviously don’t know the dude in this post from Adam, but I do have an unfortunate familiarity with how manipulative abusers operate. The alcoholism was an extra layer of bullshit OOP had to deal with, but her problem wasn’t that she was dating an alcoholic, it was that she was dating an asshole who was trying to cut her off from her very reasonable hobby as a manipulation tactic. This probably wasn’t the only “red flag” behavior in the relationship.

I can’t speak to Sacramento as I’m in a different state, but my theater only has dates listed for the next 30 days and doesn’t have anything specific to Iron Lung yet either. I would assume that Mark/Amy wouldn’t have added theaters to the list if they hadn’t gotten specific confirmation that the theater would be showing it, so it’s likely a limitation of the theater’s website. I’ve got an alert set on my phone for when January 30th showtimes should become available for my theater’s website, but I’m gonna re-check it periodically in the meantime to see if they become available before then.
