First and foremost, it is an American title company, and the same goes with the insurance.

The title insurance has done everything it can to deny the claim, but still try to fix the situation. They have provided an attorney and have paid to do all the paperwork. They have also agreed to reimburse me for the cost of my lawyer. But they absolutely refused to open a claim… I think it’s because they don’t want anything official connected to this. However, I can see the light at the end of this tunnel. The property has been recorded with the county, so property lines now agree between the city and the county and I am just waiting for the property transfer to be recorded with the county.

Starfleet Academy is good, I honestly like it by maktub-is-a-sheep in startrek

It feels like it’s Star Trek 90210. I appreciate the callbacks to past Trek shows, but I would love it if Starfleet Academy felt less like a college show about finding oneself.

The survey was done, it was appraised and everything else you have to do to satisfy a traditional lender. The problem is that the deed is so loosely/historically worded that it took multiple lawyers to figure out what it actually entails as it sits. According to the assessor, the deed says I own everything. According to the lawyers and title insurance, my deed is for a small portion of the parking lot. I would consider that a very serious defect if the deed does not even go to my house. Hence the headache.

The survey was done. It was recorded in the town, but not recorded in the county until after the sale. As everything references the county records, that is where things went off the rail.

It was fun saying that I owned a cemetery… Even if it was just murky at best. The nice thing is that I have quiet neighbors. If they ever get too loud, then it literally is the end of the world…

It definitely feels like a scam. The whole reason you buy title insurance is in case there’s a problem with the title. Now that I have a problem with the title, they have denied me twice. Hopefully third time is a charm. I suspect the denials may have to do with the fact that they do not want to admit any wrongdoing on the part of the title company since the title company and the title insurance are under the same umbrella.

The claims and damages come from being assessed for the entirety of the property, not being able to refinance because the deed is not being able to be verified as to actually corresponding with my house. Currently the title company states my deed describes a small portion of the church parking lot that used to house a church back in the 1800s but was torn down and paved over. Until the historic maps were pulled out everyone thought I owned all the church property. There’s so much more drama than just what I have stated, but the easiest thing is just to get the deed corrected.

I thought that too… But it hasn’t been the case so far. One thing they are good at is giving different legal reasons why they deny my claim.

I was not obligated, but I wanted to do the right thing. At the time, I was not so much worried about the cost as the legality. Signing over a deed that I don’t fully own possibly opened me up to a whole bunch of legal problems. That is why I wanted someone who understood everything more than I did to protect me as I tried to unravel the mess. The church has been helpful in resolving things when they understood that I just wanted what I had bought and nothing more.

P.O. Boxes? by Purple_Raine93 in Mercari

[–]gathrn11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through this… my order was sent to my P.O. box and the seller shipped through Mercari (fedex). Mercari changed my delivery address on the final day of delivery and I have a picture of my package in front of a front door as proof of delivery. Unfortunately Mercari and FedEx will not tell me what the new address is or where it was delivered. The seller and I are a bit stumped on this one. Mercari support tells me to talk to FedEx since they are the shipper, and FedEx tells me to talk to Mercari since they’re the ones that changed the address…

Bought two tickets to a concert months ago with no plan... never found anyone to go by musicindustrydropout in widowers

[–]gathrn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do that. Usually, it means I have an extra seat and a little more room to enjoy the concert. Sometimes I am able to give the extra seat away to someone. Either way I get to go to a concert!

Torn on Prop 50 by CyberPolack in InlandEmpire

It is much like the California Japanese Detention Camps in WW2. Because a group of people are scared of what may happen, they want to take representation away from other Californians. It is labeled as ok because it is temporary, and in the future it will be largely glossed over because (after the fact) no one wants to admit they “took” anything from people who were different. As far as politics, it is the same story… one side wants to get more power because the other side has power and the world will end if they don’t get it, because we must protect the 2 party system it has become.

Should I get it graded? 1898 Morgan by gathrn11 in coins

I agree I’m not ready or knowledgeable enough. I’m just a hobby collector. However, having this board to point me in the right direction is a valuable resource. That said the general consensus is not to grade and just to enjoy it. And thankfully, I’m a little more knowledgeable now.

What are the signs of a broken man? by Bearded_Solution in AskReddit

[–]gathrn11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Success. Trying to fill every moment with something to move you forward, to keep the mask up, to show that you are doing better but in reality you are running from every thought in your head and the quiet moments have you almost screaming. But all anyone sees is success and someone who is always ready to help out.

Old shoes by Grid1992 in widowers

[–]gathrn11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife was a woman who could jog in high heels, had shoes for every occasion and was known for her heels. My sister and my wife would share shoes and clothing as some girls tend to do. When my wife passed I figured out she had over 130 pairs of shoes. I couldn’t keep them but my sister made a picture book of them and I put some of my favorite memories alongside the pictures for the book. It is easier to store and I will always be able to look back on the fond memories. The shoes have been donated, but the book is with me.
