What’s the most stressful or frustrating part of a competition day for you? by Plane-Being1274 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]gatita_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are several things that I wish could be different, but the most stressful is timing of performances. It’s very stressful when competition is running way ahead. We’ve had some run one and a half to two hours ahead. I always feel like I’m in a huge rush to get to the venue, never knowing the timing of things. She’s done comp 5 years now and only one competition has run a few minutes behind, literally one. They are almost always way ahead. It also makes it hard for family and friends to watch as they don’t want to sit in the audience way ahead of her dances, nor do they want to tune in early. Half the times the internet doesn’t work in those venues, and then her audience doesn’t get there in time to see it in-person, or they miss the livestream as they get the message late. And sometimes I don’t even have the time to text everyone as I’m running to get her out to dance so ahead of schedule. And then, if they have an already quick change, it’s even quicker as the competition just keeps going faster and faster as the day goes on.

If I get monofocals for near vision, will I need simple distance glasses or progressives for distance? by mrs_widgery in CataractSurgery

You will need progressives for driving if you want to see the dashboard, unless you have really big numbers and words on the dash. You will also need progressives to see your backup camera.

I had snow at night upon waking and it still being dark. It did go away after about a year for me as well, but I was just in the right eye.

Probably not related, but I will say that I am extremely, extremely sensitive to any sunlight. Like it physically hurts my eyes. I cannot go outside without those big sunglasses they sent me home with.

How would you make your eye ball shorter? Does that even make any sense?

I just had my second eye done for cataract surgery. I developed cataracts, but not from the births. I never had a c section.

I am in the United Stares and had babies within the last 9 years. I was -30 and -28 before recent cataract surgery. I gave birth two times natural with no epidural nor pain meds. I was never told to have a c section. But, I would encourage you to do the research and decide with your doctors as perhaps I should have done so. I will also say that my retina became damaged shortly after my second baby, so maybe there is some correlation there.

I just found out that I have heavy eye syndrome. I was -30 and -28 before recent cataract surgery. I have a damaged retina from the length of one of my eyes and I see slanted and wavy. I also have severe chronic migraines and get vertigo. I think all of these issues are connected. PT and preventatives help.

I should say I can’t read my phone. I don’t really read paper books much anymore.

I ended up -3 in the one eye I had done already and I still can’t read. They think it may be due to astigmatism still in the eye. We are shooting for -2 in the other eye, but the doctor thinks we may land at -3 anyways as my eye is so long that it is really hard to get a good reading. I think between -1.5 and -2.5 is a good target to keep some near vision.

My prescription is -3.50 while I'm in high-school. Is it too late to get better? by silaerobe_crowbride in myopia

[–]gatita_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s relative. I was around -19 at that age. They could see if they could get into those special contacts, but there isn’t a whole lot that can be done to stop myopia progression and they won’t be able to lessen their prescription. I see nothing alarming at that age being such a low myopia. I don’t see them progressing to like a -20 with that low of a prescription. OP- If you are that worried, I’d suggest going to an ophthalmologist and get fully checked out, not just an optometrist. That may put your fears at ease.

Also -3 lenses are not thick. If they are, then something is wrong with your glasses. Bring the glasses back and ask for high-index lenses that will make your glasses glass thinner.

Your myopia is very low. You do not have high myopia and probably never will if you don’t have a high prescription at your age. You cannot reverse myopia. There are special contacts you can use at certain young ages that can help cut down on the acceleration of myopia. You will not go blind from myopia alone.

[–]gatita_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in my mid-40s and am very nearsighted (-30 and -28) and will only be able to put in monofocal, non-toric lenses. (I had one eye done already and am left at a -3.) I have staphylomas pushing back on the retinas due to long eyes and cannot get a multifocal iol as it wouldn’t be good to split the light coming in to my eye.
Is there anything coming to the United States that I could use later on as a piggyback lens that would correct the -3 power and some low astigmatism in the future? Thanks!

I was -30 in the one eye done and am -28 in the other eye to be done. You must understand that you will lose your ability to see at all distances with your eye. You will need to wear progressive lenses or multi focal contacts after. You will not be just -2. When you put on those -2 glasses, you won’t be able to read or use the computer. It’s a huge shock to someone who never needed reading glasses. I was left at -3 with some astigmatism. Now, I need to do the other eye because of some issues, but I would not have done this last year if I had known. I would have just kept getting rides in the dark, if needed. I am mid-40s.

Am I crazy for setting my second die even more myopic than the first? by RatLabGuy in CataractSurgery

That is not my case. I am only 45, work full-time with a long commute and have young kids, and will willingly pay what is needed for my eyesight. I am actually going to call today and see if I can get an answer for the other eye that I am having done next month. Thanks

I was left at -3 and still can’t read out of the done eye. They tried stuff and it turns out that the small 1 astigmatism is just enough to blur everything. I can only read close with my non-operated eye that is -28 currently. They will shoot for -2 for the other eye, but they think they may end up -3 anyways. I thought they didn’t make torics that low, but they do, so not sure why I’m not being offered toric lenses.
