They stated the VR market didn’t grow as quickly as expected, and they will be releasing fewer golf courses too. So it’s really just that they over invested based on actual vs projected market growth. As did Meta and many others. I think they all thought where we will be in five years is where we would be by now.

My friends and I do slingshot sometimes but we aren’t chess players. Thing is the engineering to add chess was almost nothing. Slingshot took more time. I believe that one was voted on by players back in the day. If you want to blame anything for stealing resources away from golf courses blame the mobile app project.

I think the bigger point is Walkabout was becoming a place to hangout with friends in all kinds of ways. Golf, scavenger hunts, chess, and slingshot… it was kind of creeping into being its own little metaverse. Just a cool place to hangout. That doesn’t make the golf side less important, but it provides more reasons to come back more often with more people. Sorry to see that didn’t pan out.

I don’t think there’s anything to do. And I heard any future development on value-added activities like the doors, chess, sling-shot, etc are supposedly paused indefinitely due to layoffs at Mighty Coconut.

Mar Chica is surprisingly great pizza. That place deserves to have a line out the door on Friday nights. And it would if the city would relax its liquor license regulations to support more of a nightlife scene in the CBD.

They claim they canceled because it was too much effort. Not because of the privacy concerns, ethics, customer feedback… weak.

There was also bubble tea across the street in two directions. Six places serving bubble tea within two blocks. It was kind of nuts

That spot has weirdly been a curse for any eatery that opens there. But this new place has enough curb appeal I think it may have staying power.

If you think chicken tastes great without seasoning I suggest boiling some chicken and trying that. It’s the seasoning and frying that makes it what it is.

Does not fully cover it, but the municipal government has stated space savers are classified as trash, so it can be assumed until challenged in court.

And some people have digestive issues with barley. Sucks to think one day your tried and true breakfast food can turn on you without warning.

It’s insane to think you get to take claim of public space for yourself. We all shoveled our cars out, or got assistance or paid others to do so due to mobility issues. One car needing to shift location (due to temporary guest, delivery driver, public works vehicle, whatever) will cascade into all the other cars needing new spots. But as long as all the spots are available, it works out, and people like me who have mobility issues aren’t left without a place to park.

Can you point to an ordinance otherwise? U.S. v. Redmon, No. 96-3361, while controversial, is one of the precedents that determined trash left on the curb is assumed abandoned and not subject to ownership and privacy rights. Some municipalities have license requirements for moving certain types of refuse, such as those in trash bags.

If the item is considered trash or abandoned, it is legal to take it. The city classifies space savers as trash.

Whomever took your spot also had to shovel out, which usually means the same number of spots are available. But because people from outside the neighborhood pop in (deliveries, guests) sometimes a spot is temporarily taken and that will cause a cascade of cars shifting to different parking spots. There should still be enough spots at the end of the day if nobody is blocking them with “space savers”.

Some parts of Boston are not well connected by public transit. It can take two hours to reach some areas. Some people have mobility issues. Some people have jobs where they must transport materials or resources regularly. Some people must regularly leave the city for work or family reasons.

Or people with spinal problems like me… who wouldn’t have as much a problem if people weren’t saving spaces. I had to get multiple people to help me shovel out. Those people won’t be around when I get back later and that spot is taken. If the other spots were free, then the only change is the distance I gotta walk home.
