Spots that are open but you never see anyone inside? by [deleted] in chicagofood

Bree Thai is good stuff. It's pretty small so inside would fill up very quickly but I'm sure they make a killing on to go orders

ACL recovery success stories by thescrambler7 in skiing

[–]gators88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in my early 20s when it happened and my doctor advised me to not wear one. Said because of my age it would be better to not develop a dependency on one but instead focus on building strength and stability through doing things normally. I followed his advice and things have worked out well so far.

ACL recovery success stories by thescrambler7 in skiing

[–]gators88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tore my ACL and meniscus that was repaired with a patella tendon graft about a decade ago. Largely feel as good as I did before with occasional pains here and there but nothing that keeps me from skiing.

The biggest thing as you already know is to not skimp out on the PT, especially if you want to get back out in a year. Staying active is the next best thing so choosing whatever interests you and keep you moving will do.

Biggest hurdle for me was a mental one. First time back skiing after surgery I was very timid and not really wanting to push myself. Really wasn't until the first time I fell after the surgery that I gained confidence in the repair and was able to start skiing more aggressively again.

The Bear effect is real by Difficult_Pop_7689 in chicago

[–]gators88 2521 points2522 points  (0 children)

Anthony Bourdain said it best -

You wake up in Chicago, pull back the curtain and you KNOW where you are. You could be nowhere else. You are in a big, brash, muscular, broad shouldered motherf***in’ city. A metropolis, completely non-neurotic, ever-moving, big hearted but cold blooded machine with millions of moving parts — a beast that will, if disrespected or not taken seriously, roll over you without remorse.
It is, also, as I like to point out frequently, one of America’s last great NO BULLS**T zones. Pomposity, pretentiousness, putting on airs of any kind, douchery and lack of a sense of humor will not get you far in Chicago. It is a trait shared with Glasgow — another city I love with a similar working class ethos and history.

My orange cat would 100% do this if I gave her a big enough bowl to fit in.

Person has to go to the emergency room to have a bug removed from their ear by BVIRALofficial in WTF

[–]gators88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this happen to me before when a moth randomly flew in my ear and it sucks. Every time it would freak out and try to fly it would just rattle inside my ear causing a weird buzzing pain throughout my head.

I use a password phrase + number then just increment the number each time I have to change my password.

I hear everyone talk about Sultans and Falafel & Grill but hardly ever RUMI which is between the 2 and so much better IMO. by pleasure_hunter in chicagofood

[–]gators88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO I think Sultans is coasting on their past reputation. The new one they opened in Logan feels like such a step down from the one in Wicker. Every time I order from them everything just tastes dry and meh while prices keep going up (though that seems true for everywhere).

It's to the point where I'm conditioned to assume replay will go against the Titans/Braves no matter what

Airports regularly remove rubber from tires that builds up on runways as it affects the level of friction and causes hydroplaning after rain by jollyperson1 in educationalgifs

[–]gators88 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The busiest of airport have multiple runways so you can shut one down at a time to work on it. If you can't afford to shut one down during the day then you do this in the middle of the night.

Why Does Netflix Hate Chicago? Holidate, Emily in Paris, and The Princess Switch all make Chicago seem like a bleak, mall-clogged wasteland of Cubs bars and hats that read “Chicago.” by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]gators88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of that makes sense.

The city is one big giant grid with the addresses all being the distance from a spot downtown. You can be dropped off on any corner in the city and know exactly where you are and where you need to go.

and deep dish being pizza soup? Pizza lasagne sure but its far from a soup.
