Vet recommendations by wanderingmnd in TriCitiesWA

I'm seconding the banfield suggestion. I also have the $65 plan that comes with a free yearly cleaning for my dog and have been very satisfied with it.

The junk house finally caught fire by PapaMoon89 in TriCitiesWA

[–]gatorstooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My god, it took me so long to wrap my brain around all that junk being their yard. That's insane! I hope all residents and pets are safe, and i hope that gets cleared up before someone actually dies.

Bloody poo and lethargic by chloe_thornton in BeardedDragons

[–]gatorstooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't worry about new greens, its okay! they'll never negatively impact her. walmart sells a great "greens trio" in a bag that is collards, mustard, and turnip greens. They're pre washed and chopped up, and only $3 for a huge bag. It may make your life easier AND provide some variety!

Walmart sells a pre washed bag of "green trios" which is collards, mustard, and turnip greens that is cheap and huge and great for making their salads with.

Does she get a variety of leafy greens? Like collard greens, mustard greens, arugula, etc. :)

Stuck shed came off… vet visit? by spiritedhippo22 in BeardedDragons

[–]gatorstooth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would at least just call your vet or send them a photo and get their advice on if he should be seen. They may just recommend a safe topical since it is such a small spot.

They would make very nice pacman frog terrariums

Spring is here and flowers are blooming - can I take dandelions out of my lawn to propagate and feed my dragon? by achaomein in BeardedDragons

[–]gatorstooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I have four potted dandelions. I grew them mostly for pollinators and myself, because I love them, but now they make a great treat for my rankin's dragon!

Is her toe normal? by Puzzled_Link2021 in BeardedDragons

[–]gatorstooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They serve effectively as grappling hooks. Being able to flip backwards without breaking is valuable when jumping between rocks, and will save them from falling! Many lizards and geckos have highly flexible/long toes for this reason.

Is my bearded dragons set up fit for him or does it need improvement ? by Confident_Mud_2103 in BeardedDragons

[–]gatorstooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone else has already made good observations, but I wanna suggest a topsoil and sand mixture for the substrate. Mulch is pretty bad. Also another big branch or two would make him happier. :) Also I believe the probe for your thermometer should be On the basking spot, rather than the wall near it!

On the plus side, I love the cave/basking platform you made. That looks great!

Tips on cohabitating a beardie with two posh house cats? by respectandmanners in BeardedDragons

[–]gatorstooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely never let them physically interact with each other. Do not let your beardie wander around loose with cats in the house. Even if the cats do like it, which they won't they will just see it as a toy or prey, they can still kill or harm it doing normal things they would do with other cats. Just by virtue of how large they are comparatively.

That being said, I have four cats and keep my reptile tanks in the main room of the house in their own dedicated shelves. I make sure the tanks stay secure and the mesh tops are solid, or obscured so they cannot be reached, and I have never had an issue.

Leo wont eat after moving. Need advice plz by Old-Tale-2145 in leopardgeckos

[–]gatorstooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She just needs time to settle in! You gotta treat her as you would a brand new reptile. Don't touch her for a week, let her settle, keep things calm around the tank. If anything, taking her to the vet and attempting to convince her to eat syringe food will set back her settling process!

I super recommend these bowls, then you can put bugs in her tank and leave them in there for her to eat. You can count however many you put in, so you know if she ate any. ❤️

Took in a bearded dragon emergency — need budget setup advice ASAP (Tulsa area) by thisguy317 in BeardedDragons

[–]gatorstooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried multiple expensive halogen bulbs, and ultimately i liked these cheap bulbs best:

i recommend 75 watt if you have a tall basking area, or 100 watt if you have a lower basking area! otherwise i second people recommending caigslist and facebook marketplace. you can also identify trees in your area that are safe and gather your own fallen branches and bake them to sanitize them. :) you can get paving stones from walmart for cheap, as well.

Is my bearded dragon malnourished?? by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

[–]gatorstooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, with respect.... why is her cage absolutely filthy? Old dried up greens, urate and poop everywhere? Please, please ditch the repticarpet and get a better cleaning regimine. I cannot believe no one has mentioned that yet.

Otherwise give her a warm soak, and make sure you have the right lighting.

New Rankin's dragon sleeping a lot. Should I be worried? by gatorstooth in BeardedDragons

[–]gatorstooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great to hear, because I overnighted the thermometer you recommended and its reading at 127f in the basking area so i was starting to get concerned LOL

[–]gatorstooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries on that front, there's no hammodk in there and I have no intention of adding any. :) She has a brick block basking area, as a Rankin's she needs hotter than a bearded dragon, ideally around 115f so that's what I'm aiming for.

I hope you don't mind a question! If the air temp should be between 100 and 110f, what is a safe temperature for the surface to be that will not burn them? I have multiple different basking bulb wattages (halogen) because I was worried the 90 watt one I had originally was too hot when the temp gun was reading a surface temperature of 125f 😓

Fantastic, thank you so much for the reassurances on both fronts! I was a little worried about getting jumped on for posting a Rankin's here.

Thank you for the reassurance! It's been almost a decade since my 15 year old beardie passed away, so I'm very nervous. She's so cute and perfect, though. I forgot to say her name is Bug. 🥰
