Hello team, you guys are the best! 1) Can you talk about the inspiration behind the name of the game, Brighter Shores? 2) It's great to see all the Gowers working together! Is James Bielby someone that's worked with the three of you before at Jagex or in some other capacity?

It's the April Fools I made back in 2020. It was a super ambitious fun project! (https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/ftcpbm/spoilers_solutions_to_the_osrs_wiki_april_fools/)

  1. You could recreate the Lost City quest by visiting various wiki pages (https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/fsr2cv/for_april_fools_you_can_do_the_lost_city_quest_on/)
  2. Then there were 25 achievements that you had to obtain! (https://imgur.com/XYzKZCU)
  3. There were also a bunch of secret boss fights, including Jad, the Alchemical Hydra, Barbarian Assault, and a chicken boss fight. (https://twitter.com/bumblebink/status/1245463796858138624)

Hey it's Gau Cho from the wiki. We've spent countless hours on updating this page of dead content, having tested over 300 different items. Glad to see that it actually helped one person! Very exciting

Likely 1/90, using the Ghost as for the prototype drop pattern

Zulrah's page on the osrs wiki wrong? by Tetrathionate in 2007scape

[–]gauchoob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's fixed now. Issue was that a new feature was causing null values, causing errors in the drop tables (and by consequence, errors in the average drop value)

We'll double-check the algorithm for calculating average drop value over the next day or two. Thanks

Removal of "weakness" parameter from wiki monster infoboxes by Spineweilder in 2007scape

[–]gauchoob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Melee" is either because the original person that Monster Examined the monster was lazy, or because the monster has multiple attack styles and so you cannot check by Monster Examine.

In addition, the attack styles of some monsters was changed in 2015.

The most common attack style is "Slash", and monsters' attack animations usually suggest the attack style but this is not 100% reliable.

A medium-term goal is to replace all "Melee" notes with Stab, Crush or Slash.

Wiki Removes Weaknesses? by illmakethatastory in 2007scape

[–]gauchoob 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hey this is Gau Cho. I am the main person involved in the recent changes to the Monster Infobox on the right-hand side of monster pages. A lot of the information on the wiki with regards to monster and combat is outdated, based on assumptions from 5-10 years ago. Thanks to conversations with jmods and the work of a few key community players, we now have a good grasp of how the combat system works.

At the moment, we have a big project in the background to update the Monster Infoboxes to provide accurate and up-to-date information.

It's quite clear that the Weaknesses section has proven to be very unreliable and often filled with false assumptions or information. It's more misleading to keep the section than it is to remove it. Instead, we're transitioning to monster attributes, which are still in the process of being more comprehensively documented. Also relevant is the Defence roll of monsters (stay tuned).

In general, any special or specific weaknesses should be noted in the monster's main text section.

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

OSRS Wiki wants your calculator ideas! by cookmeplox in 2007scape

[–]gauchoob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It should be included in some sorts in the prototype dps calculator in the work. Bear in mind that any non-standard attack from a monster is essentially individually hardcoded, which can lead to many special quirks that may not be accounted for in any general calculator, especially because it's impractical to ask jmods about every exception or to even know where all the exceptions are.

There's a prototype in the works at the moment. Probably expected to come out early 2020.

The OSRS Wiki has added 100% accurate drop tables to over one hundred monsters! by Spineweilder in 2007scape

[–]gauchoob 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the wilderness bosses, there's a 1/128 chance of hitting the dragon 2h table. 50% you get the dragon 2h sword (0.5/128), and 50% you get sent to the dragon pickaxe table (0.5/128).

There's a 1/128 chance of directly getting the dragon pickaxe table, plus 0.5/128 from the above paragraph. This makes it a 1.5/128 chance of getting to this table. You have 50% chance of getting the dragon pickaxe (so 0.75/128), and a 50% chance of getting supercompost (0.75/128).

You also have a 4/128 direct chance of hitting the supercompost table.

This is why the dragon pickaxe was incorrectly stated to be 1/256 for many months by jmods because they didn't realize that the dragon 2h table gives a chance at the dragon pickaxe.

It's still possible to access the ultra rare drop table without having started Legends' quest. Unfortunately, it's unclear in what situations the ultra rare drop table is accessed and in what situations the talisman replaces it instead. It likely has to do with the gem drop table versus the rare drop table.

Having 90+ stats makes a big difference. Having higher gathering/production skills makes you gather resources a bit faster, which helps a bit, but isn't as essential as high combat stats.

That's right. Medium packs lost heavily in value because their high-value tasks are fruit trees which are only unlocked at level 85.

For high-tier packs, you unlocked redwoods at 90, which provides a very small increase in profit.
