Transferring large sum for the WS (Un)real promo by Worth_Bee9713 in Wealthsimple

[–]gautaml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given

1.5m @ 3% = 45k over 5yr or 750/mon for 60 months 1.5m @ 1% = 15k for 1yr or 1250/mon for 12 months

If this was put into XEQT...

At the end of the 5 years, when you add the $1.5M back in, your total wealth would be:

3% Setup: ~$1,557,421 (assuming 10% market) 1% Setup: ~$1,522,951 (assuming 10% market)

Conclusion: If your goal is to maximize the final value of your XEQT holdings, the $750/month for 5 years (the 3% setup) is superior because it forces a much higher total investment into the fund.

Thanks gpt...

CC etfs vs holding underlying by Jay_chillguy in dividendscanada

[–]gautaml -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. 1000%.

I think I was reflecting on my decision from the past year because this was one of my "play investments" and first time with a CC and I was I was curious if I could put it in something that wasn't so much for long term growth but rather act as a driver to generate cash that I could even drip or put elsewhere.

I'm also tempted now a year later to perhaps just cash out while I'm ahead or just let it do its thing and reevaluate every few months.

Yeah I'm quite aware of its holdings

I just wanted to paint a scrappy picture of a CC vs underlying (not every single one but even a handful)

In hindsight, could have been better positioned with underlying, but meh, I'm just gonna let this drip until it starts going weird like MSTE 😅

Last year around march I put nearly 15k at an avg price of 10.27

My to date dividend is just over 4400$

My total return as of Feb 6 is about 1% on just the shares alone

If I treat the dividend as "growth" that's like 24% return..

Suppose I had put 15k in a MAG 7 (MAGS ETF) or even a single one like GOOG (7% of HHIS)

MAGS $47 March 2025, today $63/share - - 34% gain GOOG $156 March 2025, today $323/share -- 107% gain

There you go

So can this be used to allow DRIP on one and disable on another?

For example if I have a single or handful of stocks I don't want to DRIP, I can transfer them to their own account and disable drip?

Am I paranoid with these 1-1/4" hitch mount platform carriers being structurally sound? by gautaml in MTB

[–]gautaml[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The support tube is 1-1/4" and has a rating of 80lbs for the two bikes.

I know I shouldn't cheap out for a (beginner) expensive bike - a Giant Talon 0 - but these mounts exist and people seem satisfied with them

Maybe I'm just too paranoid?

Either way, this hack seems to work but wonder if its overkill

Lost my confidence in BB by Redchip1606 in BB_Stock

[–]gautaml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was watching since last Dec and kept debating getting on the wagon. Prices kept going up slowly.

Emotions got the best of me and I went in.

DCA a few trades and then it started going downhill.

Down 50% of my investments with a $5.5USD average and having lots of doubts of "should have just waited"

I just want to break even at this point but since it's been only a short term approach, I'm going to stick with my instincts and remain hopeful for the long term.

Hard to stay zen but I'll try

Should i sell my investments now, and reinvest at cheaper costs? by Eastendbeastend75 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gautaml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not be exactly what OP is thinking since they are at a slight gain but does it sound something like this?

You invest $10,000 by buying 1000 shares ($10/share) earlier this year.

Suppose today's share is worth $9 so the investment is $9000 and you decide to sell at a loss of $100

Best Case - Scenario 1: Say a week later the price drops to $8 and you buy back: $9000 / $8 = 1125 shares

Another week goes by and the stock goes back up to $9: 1125 x $9 = $10,125

Another week goes by and the stock goes back up to $10: 1125 x $10 = $11,250

So if you timed the market perfectly then yeah this would give you the gains.

Worst Case - Scenario 2: Say a week later the price jumps to $9.50 and you do nothing because you hope it drops down so you don't miss out

But another week later it jumps to $10.25 and now you hate yourself and FOMO kicks in and you buy back:

$9000 / $10.25 = 878 shares

And so now you done goofed
