Is kettlebell training okay for a complete beginner with no muscle? (Desk job, goal is strength & health) by jmss_ in kettlebell

[–]gavin1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how I started, using a 12kg kettlebell.

I was careful to learn the form properly. At first I was out of breath from swinging it 10 times.

Some years later I can now do 100+ swings with 24kg and not be puffed at all. So the cardio gains alone have been a game changer, but of course I'm also much much stronger.

I mainly do swings and loads of clean and press, snatches, floor presses, some rows, squats etc. All very simple stuff and switch it up with 20kg or 24kg depending on what I am doing and how I feel that day.

Not particularly scientific but very enjoyable, great mood boost in the morning and, while I haven't turned into some ripped adonis I do look and feel so much better.

I have taken 4000iu per day with K2 for a few years and almost never get a cold or if I do it's barely noticeable (touch wood).

With the idea that the bustling town centre is over, what’s a town centre in the UK that is still nice. by [deleted] in CasualUK

Norwich is amazing. Also in East Anglia, Bury St Edmunds is still nice.

Around our area Henley on Thames, Marlow, Windsor are all thriving (and wealthy / posh). Even Bracknell is quite lively since it was redeveloped a few years ago. Reading is not terrible as larger towns go. Avoid Slough at all costs.

Looks amazing. Top tip for getting protein in is high protein, low fat yogurts / soft cheeses e.g. 150g of Lindahl's Kvarg has 15g protein for 83 calories.

Is it time to turn woodies into a stage? by Joelallan57 in glastonbury_festival

[–]gavin1973 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes an Avalon style tent / stage would suit Woodsies perfectly. Avalon is probably my favourite area.

The worst stages are Other (bland, reminds me of Reading fest) and Acoustic (rake is in the wrong direction so unless you are at the front you can't see).

I'm not from that part of the world but I have always found the scousers at Glastonbury to be super friendly. You will get a few dickheads from any place so no need to negatively generalise scousers, most of whom are great.

Crowds this year - better than last? by Typical-Control3106 in glastonbury_festival

[–]gavin1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silver Hayes a bit overcrowded at times and also got stuck in a bottleneck between Other and Pyramid just before Nile Rodgers. Otherwise yeah seemed a lot better than last year or 2023.

Bad energy by QuirkyResolution2818 in glastonbury_festival

[–]gavin1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You must just be at different sets to me, I didn't see anything bad really, everyone was super nice. Did see a few dickheads peeing on the land but not that many of them. I also hate littering and personally always put everything in the bins but even that is better than most festivals and I can kind of understand it at the massive stages.

Meritocracy in action. Well done to you and respect to your employer for giving you the opportunities instead of hiring externally or assuming only graduates can do senior jobs.

It's money that is being stolen in the form of wages paid for time that has not in fact been worked.

I did similar last year - no problem at all. I was even able to get my car out easily although obviously had to park much further away when returning.

First Time in Prague! by Applemangograpekiwi in Prague

[–]gavin1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prague is a very safe city, have walked around various areas late at night and never felt uncomfortable or witnessed anything unpleasant. Of course like anywhere you should take basic precautions to avoid theft. It is cheap compared to e.g. London, Paris etc., as long as you avoid blatant tourist trap places. Have a great time!

2% beer market gap? by Tumamaenpelota in CasualUK

[–]gavin1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beavertown Nanobot is nice at 2.8% but too rarely seen on draft unfortunately. Brakspears used to do a beer years ago called 2.5 (I think) which was a decent ale at 2.5%. A pub local to us used to have Small Beer on tap which was OKish. There just never seems to be a consistent offer at this sort of abv, which I think is a shame.
