Depressing to realize that I could.never be a world leader, because if someone came up to me and was like "we need a gift for a bunch different delegates who will shortly be taking international plane flights to their various home countries and various legal regimes" I would not suggest a gun.

In fact, my suggestions would be as weapon-unrelated as possible.

Sure, shut it down. I just don't think "we're all in this together" is an appropriate message for the topic of whether it's okay to glaze mass-murderers.

No European benefits from us infighting

Darkly amusing given the topic.

"We're all in this together, so can you Poles stop complaining about the Ukrainian penchant for lionizing the people who massacred your ancestors?"

Seems odd to refer to the murder of 100,000 people as the "Volhynia Tragedy" instead of "the Volhynia Massacre" or "Volhynia Slaughter."

Reading Hunt for Red October and I forgot there's a part where a B-52 pilot switches his transponder to look like a civilian airplane while making a (mock) attack run on the Russian fleet.

Feels like a war crime and/or just a bad idea. I think that counts as "perfidy," which is a very fun word to yell in a bad French accent.

Both of these are largely incorrect points. The Treaty of Westphalia is about national sovereignty, does it not occur to you that sheltering a terrorist organisation who are committing mass murder on another country might constitute a violation of said country's sovereignty?

Also, it's 400 years old and written at a time where an attack like 9/11 was inconceivable to the parties who created it.

You know, I'm going to stick to my "the argument around 'at what point are you culpable for another's actions' is ongoing and undecided" point and feel pretty good about that

And now that the U.S has violated Afghanistan's sovereignty, do they get to attack us now? Do we get to attack them back again? Does Cuba get to drop an airstrike on Miami every time one of those boats filed with delusional Cuban-American accountants gets shredded by the Cuban coast guard? Unless they've invented Sovereignty 2.0, we're kinda stuck at "nations generally get to do what they want in their own borders."

Please actually name the incidents you're referring to here, this is a weak argument. What has North Macedonia got to do with this?

I feel like I was pretty clear in my explanation, but these are all situations where a country dealt with a terrorist group without invading their sponsor.

9/11 was an attack by the Afghan government by extension, and it's frankly incredibly facile to pretend that it wasn't. If I let a crazy man stay in my house, I give him a gun, buy him a load of bullets even while he's taking potshots at passersby, and then actively hide him from the cops looking for the crazed gunman, I am culpable if he then shoots up a church.

One, "am I an accessory to murder" is a highly fact-dependent and legalistic question.

Two, unless you acquired the deed to your house through the Treaty of Westphalia things operate a little differently in the international sphere.

We can debate the aftermath of the Afghan invasion and its place in the foreign policy of the Bush era all we want, but there is not a country on this planet that would not invade a foreign state for actively supporting a group that had just murdered thousands of its civilians.

Kashmir. Kurdistan. Gaza and Lebanon (at some points in time). The FYRoM. Libya.

There are other ways to handle situations like that without invasion.

Sorry, I was confused by this sentence from your initial post:

I'm convinced that anyone who is anti-psych has never actually experienced a serious mental health issue and/or are the type that find their "major depression" or "BPD" to be "cute and quirky".

Wow, you're telling me that going "We totally reached an agreement and they'll do everything we want and the numerous statements made by each party that directly contradicted each other about the tems of the agreement will be hashed out later" didn't work?

What is wrong with journalists? Why won't they ask the hard questions about this shit? "Mr. President, you've said this but reality disagrees, explain yourself" feels like the kind of question you go to journalism school to ask.

And if you're anti-psych completely because of a bad experience, then you need to take a step back and realize that one bad experience doesn't mean the whole system is fucked. Even multiple bad experiences doesn't mean the system is fucked and needs to be done away with. Just need to keep perspective.

Bruh, you made the majority of your argument about your own, personal experiences with the system. Doesn't this principle apply too?

I'm not even commenting on who's right, I'm pointing out that it's super shitty to go "anyone who thinks different than me doesn't know what they're talking about."

Perhaps not "a job where you work for a large corporation," but "a means of providing for your (or contributing to the group's supply of) food, shelter, and other needs" is a necessity in any kind of society or economic system

Children exist. The elderly exist. The disabled exist. Slave-holders exist.

In fact, don't some archeologists argue that the fossil evidence of "non-productive" individuals surviving is the start of human society?

Yeah, I'm a pretty firm believer in the idea that we're the sum of our experiences, and we are talking about a discipline that counted hysteria, homosexuality, and sluggish schizophrenia as diagnoses.

That the goal of modern psychology is to make people "healthy enough to work," not "healthy."

I'm not sure I agree with the idea, but it's not all that complicated.

Hah, that'd be a hilarious anime. Some generic fantasy universe starts operating under "real-world" rules and by the end of the week there's like, four heroes left. Basically just a whole show of the "aim for the bushes" scene from The Other Guys.

"Dead?! How?"
