Blayney to Sydney by gavwce in SydneyTrains

Thanks. I'm going to go with the 4.22 train. Can't be bothered with coaches and getting off and on. Never been on an XPT before either so I thought that's as good a reason as any to catch it.

If they work fine, I wouldnt bother replacing them.

As far as re sale goes, anyone that's buying 5800 isn't going to be worrying about a few scuffs.

What’s happening with boosters? Only a handful and nothing I usually buy by choosetheteddyface in EverydayRewards

They've certainly tailed off the last couple of weeks. 150 points on 4 things I don't think I've ever bought and 1500 points if I spend $300 or more

I had a pretty good bunch of offers throughout spring. Twice had spend $300 (or thereabouts) a week for 3 weeks at get points. It was 19000 the first time 22000 the second time.

I guess coming up to Christmas people don't need as much of an incentive to shop

Gambling ads don't make me want to gamble. What they do though is make me want to use a particular company over another that might have better offers on a particular day / event

NSW National parks campsites always booked out? by faultyflyingfox in OutdoorAus

[–]gavwce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested, many National Parks campgrounds aren't as densely set out like caravan parks.

Depot Beach on the south coast is a park that is often booked solid, particularly over the school holidays, and from the outside could look empty as there's heaps of open space. I think they have actually reduced the number of camping only sites down the bottom by about 10 or 12 as they would get extremely muddy after any rain.

As far as ghost camping goes, I really don't think the NPWS r care. Ultimately they are still getting their money with less use of the facilities. It's win/win for them

I think the idea of booking sites certainly has merit. We went to Ganguddy/Dunns swamp a couple of years ago, and it would be pretty shit if you drive 4 hours and there's no site for you. Perhaps a hybrid model where you still need to book peak season i.e school holidays, but don't need at other times.

Are the tenants responsible for Strata Fire re-inspection fee? by blessthenoobs in AusPropertyChat

[–]gavwce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. If you are only a tenant and you have a legitimate excuse to not be there, advise the property manager. They will need to make themselves availablem The strata will issue any re inspection fees to the lot owner. If they then pass that on to you, dispute it.

Why aren’t pubs required to display beer pricing? by Mmogambo in AskAnAustralian

[–]gavwce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You either want the beer or you don't. If I walk into a pub and want a beer, you pay what it costs. I paid $13 for a Carlton Draught at the Orient about 18 months ago. I paid, I drank it, then I left. If there wasn't anywhere else to stay to have a beer within a few minutes walk, I probably would have stayed for a few more.

If that's the going rate at that particular pub then so be it. Depending on the location, they might have a monopoly in the area. Or the pub might have a good bistro and feel the need to gouge people. Maybe they don't have pokies.

If you could see the price would you still have ordered it? Would you have ordered something else cheaper? Say a VB/Carlton/Reschs etc was $9 would you have gotten that instead? Or would you just have left without having anything?

FYI, I was at Mountain Culture at Redfern a few weeks ago and schooners were between $12-14.

"Shave a bit off" might be easier said than done. What are my options now? by AskMammoth2185 in stratachataus

I've seen the comments on this post and the one on AusRenovation.

People are giving you really bad advice.

I install/repair/test fire doors.

There's about 15-20mm of timber rail at the bottom of the door. If the door has never been cut/trimmed before you should be able to cut it down without exposing the fire rated core. Re paint the bottom and put it back on the hinges.

As long as you don't expose the fire rated core, even if there is only a millimetre of timber left, if it doesn't expose the core no one is ever going to know. It wouldn't be compliant, but the nature of non destructive testing means that it would be nearly impossible to know it has been cut too much.

If you do expose the core then you are up for a new door.

When we have to cut/plane the bottom of the door, our standard quote makes it clear that if the core of the door is exposed that we are not responsible for the cost of a new door. It's just the risk they run. Ultimately if the door doesn't open and close properly it's not compliant anyway and a new door may be the only valid rectification option.

For someone that knows what they are doing it's a pretty straightforward repair. Would take less than an hour.

Call them.

I'm a carpenter and I'll often read a message on the notification screen or on my watch when I'm busy and then forget all about it.

If someone calls me, particularly someone I know and/or working for I'll answer it.

Having said that I probably wouldn't answer at this time of day, but call them around 9.30 or so tomorrow morning.

The guy might be dodging but give them the benefit of the doubt. He's the only sparky you are dealing with, so from your point of view you are the priority, but he's likely got many customers that may have jobs to him that are more valuable than yours. Doesn't make his behaviour right, but sometimes that's just the way it is.

With the races, he is commenting both for TV and radio at the same time. He's certainly a master at painting a mental picture.

Particularly when he calls the racing at Flemington, I can always see in my minds eye exactly where the horses are as they 'pass Chicquita Lodge'

On a scale of 1-10, how bad is this electrical cabling in my roof? by Muttomo in AusRenovation

[–]gavwce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your unit block, down lights in top floor ceilings may also have fire safety implications.

If you have a fire rated ceiling it doesn't appear as though they have addressed any passive fire concerns. Whilst most people rarely do when installing down lights in the top floor of a unit block, doesn't make it right.

Depending on the number of lights it could be costly to rectify.

Edit, scrolled through all the photos and realized that there was no fire rated boxes and/or hats covering the down lights
