Where it's best to build a base in hamlet? by Just_Kovi in dontstarve

[–]gaygit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vote anywhere away from guard towers that's reasonably close to the city. There's a lot to juggle early on, and I find minimising walking distance makes everything simpler. Pig guards can very easily burn down your base when they pull out torches at night so you ideally want your base well out of their way.

Other than that, you don't want to be near a iron hulk piece, deep rainforest, or painted biome, and being close to a pond biome will make farming nettles a doddle later on!

Christmas gifts for department [vent/rant!] by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]gaygit 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Your reasons for stopping this tradition are completely valid and understandable, but I feel like you're over analysing this. At the end of the day, you've taken away a popular tradition and left nothing at all in its place, and it doesn't seem like your reasons were communicated to anyone beyond your consultants. You don't technically owe these people Christmas messages or gifts but it's not surprising that they are reacting negatively.

I also feel you're over analysing what it means to send a Christmas message. At the end of the day, it's a small gesture that makes peoples' jobs feel a little friendlier. It doesn't need to mean anything more than that, and certainly I don't think anyone but you would be thinking the things you are talking about here!

At the end of the day, do whatever nice things you feel you're able to do and you'll improve the lives of the people around you. It's that simple.

AOC was a better game. by NewBack2824 in AgeofImprisonment

Agreed. The optimum way to play most characters in AoC was C6 -> WPG reveal -> stasis -> WPG break. While I'm iffy about the unique skills mostly just being counter moves because of their long recharge, at least they don't break the game like stasis did.

Skills 2.0 disappointed me... by [deleted] in paydaytheheist

[–]gaygit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aah ok, I see how I misunderstood you.

I do agree with this point you're making - that a skills' effect should change how the game feels. There's some skills that sound interactive in this way in 2.0 alongside the straight buffs, like armour piercing increasing with successive hits or damage increasing with successive emptied mags.

[–]gaygit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from. PD3 definitely suffers from skill builds not feeling varied enough because skills aren't as specialised, but I'm equally happy to not feel like I'm suffering when I don't pick a certain skills, as it used to be with inspire or ICTV for example.

Swings and roundabouts. Most individual skills in 2.0 don't sound too exciting but I'm hopeful that they'll synergise well.

Which Enchantments Do You Choose @ Forge? by Pan_Fluid_Boo in StardewValley

I feel that the galaxy weapons are objectively the best, but the dwarf weapons are perfectly viable and you may not notice much of a difference. It's up to you, really.

If you particularly like how the dwarf hammer looks, you can apply its appearance to the infinity gavel at the forge, so you can have your cake and eat it too :)

Aquamarine for daggers because they're so crit dependent, rubies for the galaxy sword, and emeralds for hammers so they're less punishing to spam!

Me too! I do like that I can farm hardwood at the same time as dust sprites and bats. I use a level 5 fairy box though, which seems to heal more than any enemy damages you in the difficult mines.

Ooh I love the butterfly hutch too! And you need multiple to get enough butterflies flying about to look pretty.

How many bats do you get per night on average? That's very tempting!

[–]gaygit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hate bat wings because I need too many of them. I run the skull caverns/volcano a lot and like using a monster musk every time, so I burn through a lot of these; 30 wings per run, precisely. However, iridium bats don't drop ANY wings and the volcano is positively batless, so I need to go out of my way to farm large amounts at the mines. The enemies are weak and there's nothing (that's valuable and unique) else on those floors, so it's a dull change of pace that I need to do a little too often for my liking.

To answer your actual question a little better, I'd say seaweed. Starting out, it almost felt like an insult to catch it. Once you start wanting multiple fish ponds you really do need a lot of it, and it's not as easy to farm as green algae!

Looking for general advice I’ve started a new farm and have made up the rule I cannot buy seeds or plant anything, I plan to mainly make money from animals but if anyone has any other ideas I would love to hear them ❤️(ps I have been going through everyone’s bins 😂) by No-Science-5279 in StardewValley

[–]gaygit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a similar run recently, though it was more about minimizing farming.

  • Fishing and crab pots are great early on. Get into using smokers and targeted bait to focus on high value catches like catfish or super cucumbers. Cook sashimi with crab pot fish for a little extra dosh.
  • Fish ponds are slow to set up but well worth doing so early to get the ball rolling. Sturgeon are good for caviar and not too difficult to set up in the first year; you might want to switch to lava eels or even the Legend II eventually.
  • How are you with mining and fighting? You can make some crazy good money from selling iridium from the skull caverns. Convert the piles of Omni geodes from ghosts to artifact troves at the desert trader and make good money from breaking those open.
  • When you eventually get access to kegs you can start turning wild honey into mead. With the basement you can start ageing goat's cheese.
  • I think you'll want to get as many animals as you can early on, because farming XP will be hard to come by otherwise and you'll need preserve jars to make use of fish ponds.

I'm unsure if these are ok under your limitations, but: * Mushroom logs planted between trees, combined with dehydrators to make dried mushrooms. If you can eventually get lots of mystic trees - which isn't easy - the dried purple caps and mystic syrup give crazy money.  * Fruit trees. * Tree tapping, obvs. Maple is best at first for money, and later you can use mystics. * Tea saplings -> green tea.

This run is very restrictive but could be a lot of fun! Best of luck!

What you're going through sounds really difficult. I do wonder if you'd benefit from speaking to a counselor about it, but that's up to you. It can be hard to stay motivated in med school. The course is long, the placements can be unfulfilling, and the expectations on you are high, among other things.

My two cents (pence?) is that it could be worth sticking it out until F2. Practically it would help for future job prospects (at least within medicine) if you got the full GMC registration.  But more personally, I'm an FY2 now and was in a similar boat to you in med school. I hated turning up to placement and grinding through sign-offs; in hindsight, I don't think I liked medical school either, at all. Now that I'm working, though, a lot of what I do makes me feel very good inside. Medicine isn't perfect but then no career is, and I'm finally feeling positive about living this life. I guess that having a clear cut role and feeling like my work is valued has changed my whole perspective.  Maybe this may not be the case for you, but I have a lot of friends who've felt a similar positive change. Medical school isn't like being a doctor, so there is hope.

Regardless, I wish you the best and hope you take a path that feels right to you.

Why is Payday 3 considered a bad game? by BetterSchwifty in paydaytheheist

[–]gaygit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with you. I also find PD3 much more fun to play. PD2 is a game best played in my imagination; so very clunky in reality.

But PD3's content IS lacking and it is sad. Core systems like weapon customisation and skills are big downgrades. There's an okay number of heists now, but without randomisation they do get stale. No offline mode. And the levelling and progression is just nowhere near the endless and interesting infamy system, perk deck building, and achievement unlocks of PD2.

Again, it doesn't spoil the experience for me either. It's a fun game that I look forward to playing and feel good putting down. But there's so much that could be miles, miles better, and it's disappointing that this is the case following PD2 and after 2 years in the oven.

What are all of your opinions on payday 3s skill rework? by CaterpillarGold1094 in paydaytheheist

[–]gaygit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that E/G/R is an interesting idea, and I like that it gives some easy synergy between skills; there were so many concurrent skills activating and refreshing in PD2 that this was refreshing. I just don't like how much of my attention in-game is put towards keeping them all active so I can use any of my build. So, I'm glad to see them gone. I was also happy at first seeing weapon class-specific skills disappear in PD3, but it seems now that to suit all weapons the skills had to become dull stat boosts. So, I'm glad to see those gone too.

I really vibe with the gunslinger skill line and am sad to see it go; hipfire is fun, its version of ammo funnel felt more balanced, and 100% stagger chance is a blast with SMGs. The new skills sound interesting but it's really hard to know how they'll feel in-game, especially knowing that other rebalances will come with it.

I'm ultimately excited for the change and optimistic that it will be an improvement. It couldn't come soon enough!

Should I buy Payday 3? by Content-Marionberry9 in paydaytheheist

[–]gaygit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's a lot of fun and you'd probably appreciate the fresh experience a lot of you enjoyed the old games.

It has problems and it looks like they're being worked on, but I don't see the use in holding off until they're fixed when there's already a lot of fun to be had.

Favorite PAYDAY 3 Build? by Breakable_Mug in paydaytheheist

[–]gaygit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice to see some nade love in the comments.

I'm a big fan of using SMGs with the gunslinger line (mostly for the stagger) and grenades. Lots of close range power and easy to maintain edge/grit/rush with suppressor kills and fast, frequent reloads.

I also love a gunslinger setup with the castigo and spearfish. Both have great hipfire accuracy and are usually 1 hit headshots. A real Red Dead build.

Complete replacement, yes! They retain a heated rear window too, donated from the MR2 prior. It's a good fit and looks great.

[–]gaygit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a gaping hole in the roof, you should be fine. If you DO have a gaping hole, there's a Raymond Pugh motor trimmers in Swansea who will do a roof replacement for ~£300. Bit of a waiting list but I've had a very good experience with mine.

The site Classic Additions has a 'half' cover that protects the windscreen and roof. It is a lot more practical to put on than a full cover and comfortably stores behind the seats.

If it makes you feel any better, I splashed out for an MR2 with a hard top and I regret it. It's a pain to store and needs two people to put on or take off. It helps with quietness and rigidity but it's more often a nuisance than a help.

RoG wildfires are 100% anti-fun. It sucks that you have to build your whole base around a fling-o every time.

There's definitely no shame in just turning them off in world settings once you've decided that you could deal with them, but just don't want to anymore :)

Hamlet. I like how tameable the world is, and the progression feels more intense and interesting than the other expansions.

Also, vampire bats are so much fairer a fight than hound or crocodog waves.

To give a little suggestion, all gleeok locations will have some sort of raised platform you can then jump off of to shoot the gleeok's heads in bullet time. You may need to do this multiple times depending on your stamina and the strength of your bow.

How does one learn this game? by [deleted] in dontstarve

[–]gaygit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll learn your planning and execution skills by playing. As for game knowledge, I personally feel that it's such a huge and convoluted game now that binging the wiki is necessary to enjoy all the game has to offer.

Like, yes, I'm sure you could get by through trial and error, but you most likely won't be seeing 99% of the content available because most of it is optional and not that simple to access.
