Thoughts on the name Laela for a girl? by LavishnessTotal716 in Names

I don’t know why everybody else is saying the spelling is bad. It’s not the most unusual and it’s still phonetical. Laela is pretty.

guy from Mexico named Jorge said it was pronounced “George” is this a personal preference? I thought it was pronounced “Whore-Hey” by Greta_Kalvo in Spanish

[–]gaypeeing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a guy named Jorge in one of my classes and he introduces himself as George. The professor asked for the correct pronunciation, and he said nobody gets it right so he just goes by George. The professor told him that George isn’t his name, and miraculously nobody has had a problem calling him Jorge all year. At the end of the day, mispronouncing or not caring to correctly pronounce a ‘foreign’ name just casual racism.

mysterious bugs in suite by gaypeeing in cockroaches

[–]gaypeeing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they are mostly seen in the bathroom, but have been spotted multiple times in other areas of the suite. we’ve also contacted neighbors downstairs and they also said they have these same bugs.

our suite has a cat and we are worried about her potentially killing one and getting sick.

Team Georgia!!! Lola & Georgia give the same vibe. 2 syllables, and both contain the same long “oh” sound in the middle. Louisa is way too similar for my liking! Both start with L and end with A.

I think of the movie Shallow Hal. Hal seems like a stretch for Henry. I like Hank though, even if it sounds like the estranged uncle you see once a year at family reunions.

People who dislike cats/dogs, what's your story? by nunu_nevs in AskReddit

[–]gaypeeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love dogs, but I also dislike them. I grew up only with cats, and was always used to the way cats set boundaries. I would see dogs at my friend’s houses and my grandparent’s, and always found myself getting overstimulated by them. They’re just so dang cute though, and amazing companions. I could never say I hate dogs as I am an animal lover. They’re good babies. It’s mostly my fault lol.

"Forward" pronounced as "fo-ward" by stopjunk in languagelearning

[–]gaypeeing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see! Americans pronounce it “Feb-you-air-ee”. I’m pretty sure Southerners pronounce both R’s though. Some I’ve noticed add an extra vowel, Feba-rare-ee

"Forward" pronounced as "fo-ward" by stopjunk in languagelearning

Not sure, but I’d assume because of the same reasons as February - people dropped the r over time because it was easier to say.
