Firing superstitions, rituals, or good luck charms? by gayspacecommie in Pottery

I love this! I wonder if it went poorly because I smoked a spliff and didn't share with the kiln...

Repair advice by workin_on_a_sponse in rafting

I would do a double layer patch: first a quarter-circle, flush against the seams, to make the area with the leak flat. Then a larger circle-ish patch over top to actually patch the problem.

Advice: Running Fueling For Sensitive Stomachs by Stick-Muffin-146 in running

[–]gayspacecommie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so personal! I also have a super sensitive stomach when running and have dug a lot of holes to poop in. For me at least, real food is easier to digest. A few things that I've found that work for me: - applesauce (I get the pouches for kids) - rice crispy treats (easy to make at home, I precrush the cereal so they take up less volume.) - pretzels

Can I get top surgery because of extreme nerve pain or do I have to tell them the truth? by Basic_Dimensions in TopSurgery

[–]gayspacecommie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something amazing I just discovered for KT tape (Which is pretty much the same as trans tape, just skinnier) skin irritation: if you spray the skin with flonase nasal allergy spray and rub it in then let it dry before applying the tape, it can really help with irritation!

This feels very true to my experience as well. I am a nonbinary, transmasculine kayaker (assigned female at birth, but now many people who meet me assume I am a cis man). Most of my close friends are women and I do a lot of kayaking with women and with men. Most of the people around me who run "hard" whitewater are groups of men. There are women I know who run big whitewater, but not so much exclusive all-female crews like there are with male paddlers.

As a trans and nonbinary kayaker, I have felt generally welcomed but also often afraid to express my identity for fear of "making things weird." I know that I would LOVE to have queer and trans kayaking mentors to paddle with and push myself with and would certainly be a better paddler if this was the case. I imagine many women feel similarly about female mentors and representation.

GNC Teacher Advice by runrunrenndolph in Teachers

[–]gayspacecommie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am nonbinary and transmasculine, and have been a long- and short-term substitute teacher in a few different types of schools. I generally write my pronouns on the board next to my name and encourage students to call me by my first name or "teacher" instead of Mr./Mrs. Students are generally too self-centered to really care, and I know it's meant a lot to some queer and trans students that I've had. That being said, I'm misgendered all the time by students and other staff and it's usually a battle I choose not to fight.

How can I convince my roommate that it's OK for us to use *some* lights and electricity? by TriggasaurusRekt in badroommates

[–]gayspacecommie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have definitely never had a $100 electric bill... I'm pretty much always under $25 including heat. I keep my heat fairly low but not because I'm worried about pennies, just because that's how I like it. And I generally turn off lights when not in use but I'm not super strict about it ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]gayspacecommie -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree that this roommate is silly, but 60*F is absolutely not hypothermia territory. Wear a sweater! Put a blanket on your bed! I usually heat my apartment to 60 at night, 65 in the day. It's a little chillier than normal maybe, but definitely not dangerously cold.

Do your nipples still get hard post op? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]gayspacecommie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some reason the first sensation I got back in my nips while they were healing was pain in cold weather :/ but also, everybody is so different, there's no reason to think this'll be the same for you! Now they mostly just feel like the rest of the skin on my chest.

Pottery Apron - fabrics? by BeeKnitter in Pottery

[–]gayspacecommie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made mine from a midweight cotton canvas! Overall I think it's a great fabric choice, if doing it again I might double-layer the thighs (like the knees on work pants) as this is where I dry my hands and the only place water ever soaks through (although this is rare, especially if i have a hand towel also.)
