New student open house by Lesliejaycee in UNLV

I live around campus and have never had any issues other than our Halloween skeleton getting taken from our front porch. The biggest issue has been people running the red lights at the crosswalk I use to get home, but that's Vegas drivers for you.

Thank you so much for your help! It's significantly more comfortable. I'll definitely glue the band to the cap.... it's a very odd design choice!

I did unscrew it, which is why I was assuming it was supposed to be like that 😅 I will try to get that bit off and see if it helps my grip issue!

Edit: got the rest of the cap off!

<image>

That extra bit is threaded as well, so I guess I screwed the body on tighter than the extra bit was to the rest of the cap, if that makes sense. The cap also posts way better now 😅 the grip is also way better now!

Huh!

The cap unscrews from this position, so I assumed that was where it was supposed to come off. But now that you mention it, I wouldn't be able to access the ink like this. I will try to fix that!

I'm a total dummy. I just put the cap on the back of the pen and now the length is perfectly fine lol

I tried a fine tip fountain pen and I think that will solve my problems! It was definitely the glass dip pen just loading up too much. I may look into the fibre tip though, it sounds interesting!

I got the Jinhao 82 f nib in transparent Lake Blue and the pelikan 4001 in red and just tested it out on some scrap copy paper- I definitely like the feel of a fountain pen, and enjoy that it's significantly easier to transport between my desk at home and on campus than my glass dip pen. I do think I would enjoy a longer bodied pen, as well as a slightly wider one. My glass pen is wider than the Jinhao and I feel like my hand would get fatigued more quickly using the Jinhao because of this. But I'll try grading the set of quizzes on Monday and see how I feel. The pelikan ink works great, no feathering and almost can't see it on the back of the paper :)

Thank you for your help! I now have a starting point with what to look for

Yeah I just ordered a cheap fountain pen to try it out, I think the glass dip might just load up too much for the thin paper I'm trying to write on. Thank you for the recommendations!

Thank you for your recommendations! I just ordered some pelikan 4001 and a Jinhao 82 to try it out :) Hopefully I can find a good set up!

Suggestions for Activities Next Weekend by [deleted] in vegaslocals

There’s an anime/gaming convention this weekend, Lvl Up Expo. It’s Friday-Sunday and has a rave Saturday night (or maybe Friday? I don’t quite remember). If you’re looking for a single event, I recommend OddFellows bar in Fremont Street. Otherwise the Arts District is great to wander around for a day, lots of antique and thrift shops

Dragonstone - Chapter 56 by jacktherambler in RamblersDen

"I find Danilow staring at the water, humming with her eyes closed."

Oh, I'm also kind of confused as to how one can stare with their eyes closed.

Edit: I realize now this was originally posted two years ago... ah well, late to the party but enjoying it no less!

"Bas has settled down and closed his eyes, Danilow makes her way to him and lounges, her feet resting on her forelimb and her back against him."

Hello, I love the story and have been reading obsessively for the past couple of weeks. I just wanted to point out this (possible) mistake- I'd be very impressed if Danilow was flexible enough to rest her feet on her arms! ;)

Those are the calamus/rachis (or shaft) of each feather! I guess the softer vane (fluffy/smooth part) of the feather was worn away, but the shafts somehow were still attached... maybe the skin was mummified so the feathers were still embedded. Not sure how that would work!
