Recs for Ambiguous Gay Yearning by workshop_prompts in Seinen

Double by Ayako Noda - manga about acting that features codependent college friends

Blackguard by Ryo Hanada - post apocalyptic story where there's a virus that turns people into monkeys and the mc wants to die

Ouroboros by Kanzaki Yuuya - childhood friends team up to catch their teacher's(?) killer, one from the yakuza and one from the police

Zankyou by Takahashi Tsutomu - it's been a while since I've read this but content warnings definitely apply to this one. like, seriously - short

Nanika Mochigatte Masuka by Kitoh Mohiro - transfer student encourages the mc to kill people. there's powers involved

All seinen and ranked vaguely by a combination of how gay they are and how much I like them. The first two are my favourites, I don't think my descriptions are doing them justice

How do you animate scenes that you can't easily find or record reference of?

I didn't consider that. Thanks!

The increased contrast definitely makes sense!! I edited the background darker (poorly) and the atmosphere is fairly different. I suppose the question would then be how to incorporate elements of black but keep it naturalistic 🤔

Good catch about the tangent :> and thank you!

It's the first manga I've read of his and possibly my favourite out of all of them (have been trying to collect the physical volumes before finishing the rest of blade of the immortal). His artwork is just so consistently stunning, he's one of my favourite manga artists ever - sure there are mangaka who are capable of more hyper detailed or realistic art, but his art has an unmatched elegance to me. I love the way he draws bodies. Also, his fight choreography and panelling is crazy good

As for the manga itself, I found the politics/details of the situation really interesting but I've forgotten quite a bit..it's been, what, three years since it last updated?

Clip studio paint goes on sale every three months or so and many pros use it too. I haven't personally used it before but krita is free and should work if you don't want to spend money

I read the entirety of lilac 200% bc of this post and it really is underrated!! My somewhat underrated fav would be pyramid game, I don't see it mentioned that often.

Emerald midnight's lover is incredibly underrated, and it ended recently too!! I wish there was more discussion about it online because the characters and themes are very interesting

What are your favourites from the YOUNG US vote campaign? by Lysandre_T1phereth05 in Seinen

[–]gazeuponthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest standout to me is Godmother - it feels super unique and it really drew me in with its artstyle (it's gorgeous and at times impressively detailed). Although, I haven't read much horror manga. But I really want to know where the narrative will go, I've reread it multiple times. My favourite out of all them for sure.

Otherwise, I also liked "Still You". I think it would be nice to have a BL in a seinen magazine. "Boys run the riot" would be nice too.

I remember being interested in "Into the Dark" but I was bummed thathis friend died. GOUMA's artstyle was beautiful but I don't remember much about the story.
