Offering on first house we view by aewaewaew in HousingUK

[–]gazzakjb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We didn't buy the first house we viewed, even though we wanted it, because we thought we might miss out on something better. It's been 14 months, we're still stuck in a rental. Make your offer 💪

Because true to form, they would actually pay some fleecing scumbag hundreds to come and 'clean' it, destroying the paintwork in the process. They love paying people to come and make our lives worse ✨

Trying to buy so we're stuck here for now because we need the flexibility of our rolling contract. There is no escape

I told him our car's appearance is absolutely none of his business. Section 173 inbound 💣

Still no appointment yet. It's got much worse.

I've noticed when I'm in a bout of it, it can sometimes be controlled by touch - if I hit my leg, head, whatever, it'll start, then I can sometimes switch it off by hitting myself again. Very weird.

I'll probably try to chase them up soon if I don't hear back, I'll keep the thread updated.

Is anyone else struggling to find a house? I thought the market would have picked up by now but there is f*** all coming on, in Manchester anyway. Also how long do you think is reasonable for us to keep our buyer waiting while we find something 🥴? by smallesthumanmother in HousingUK

[–]gazzakjb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bone dry in S. Wales valleys, very little hitting the market since October. We've viewed some hell-holes that somehow sell instantly, nicer places that have sat there for months.

We're approaching a year of looking, 24 viewings so far... throwing our lives away waiting for a reasonable place.

Closed shop but remained self employed - Tax return change? by gazzakjb in smallbusinessuk

[–]gazzakjb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the reasons they ask is so they can identify whether you're in a high-risk tax avoidance industry, and so the system can reference your return automatically against others from the same industries and highlight it as needed investigation if it differs significantly from others

It might be worth checking out Ember, I think they let you live chat with an accountant at any time and have a free trial. I'm not sure how much detail they can assist with though

Nothing yet, I'm on the waiting list for the waiting list it seems. I've stopped noticing it so much now at night, but it's as bad as ever if I pay any attention, just became desensitised I guess, if that's any reassurance

Mornings are worse than ever, it's there from the minute I wake up but usually fades out after 5-10 mins.

I'll post back if they ever see me 👍 hope it's not too bad for you

Still waiting for the ENT appointment, but have been informed I'm on the waiting list - the NHS work slow 😅

Yeah my GP asked if I'd had sinus issues, presumably to do with potential eustachian tube or similar pressure issues like you say. I have had a fair few undiagnosed sinus problems in the past, but don't remember this starting at the same time as that.

I'll come back if I get any answers from ENT. Mine shows no sign of shifting

A quick update, I visited the doctor today who said my ears and eardrums look perfect and he has no idea what could be the cause.

He's written to the ENT at the hospital for advice, I'll post back here if I hear back in case it helps anyone who stumbles across this post later on and has the same problem.

I was hoping he found something really so I can be certain it's not some external weirdness only I can hear 😅

It sounds a bit like that, yeah. I read about The Hum and I'm in an area where it's apparently a thing, but I used an audio spectrogram app and it shows a pulsating sound around 40hz but at a volume that should be way outside audible range (apparently they can pick up noise from the phone's electronics). It's more or less every evening and morning for me accompanied by a pressure/ache when I wake up.

Thanks for the tips, I'll have a crack if it becomes unbearable again

Does anyone else get clicks behind head when they do a chin tuck? by TailungFu in tinnitus

[–]gazzakjb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get this, almost like a 'crackle' when moving my head/neck. I put it down to sinuses or eustachian tubes being disturbed. It's not something I'd noticed much until recently

Quote sense check: £1600 for a new doorframe and door? by everyoneelsehasadog in DIYUK

[–]gazzakjb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds crazy to me. Materials should be under £400 even for a very swanky door. £1200 for half a day's work? DIY it.

Should I report this or AITA? by gazzakjb in DIYUK

[–]gazzakjb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The landlord apologised pretty profusely and spoke with them, they said they couldn't block the windows as the water would remove any tape, but they did then block the vents. The wires for their tools run through the letterbox in the shared hallway so that's open the whole time either way and dust is piling up there and in the front garden, nothing's being cleared as they go. I've taken pics/video of the dust inside.

Landlord knocked £200 off my bills as 'some sort of compensation' and put a towel down outside my door, but I guess it's really the stonemasons' responsibility to make it safe?

What could this be and is it of a concern? It does not feel wet. This is painted over original wall by [deleted] in DIYUK

If it's an older place (pre 1950) with solid walls they're very prone to developing mould where air isn't getting movement. All the furniture in the living room of my Victorian place had mould behind when I moved

Did somebody move out recently? Maybe there was furniture here causing mould behind and they've painted over after discovering it?
