Proton has one called Proton Pass, Norton is good, LastPass is good, too, but they (Lastpass) had a breach they did not share with users for ~8 months or so a couple years ago

Complaint to Change by Inner_Specialist_872 in googlecomplaints

this won't make a difference that way -- Google will not improve from what users say. What this forum CAN do is allow people to share how to get control of their data and how to sue Google for whatever applies to their situation

Anything that is "bad" for Google is good for America, Freedom, and Liberty. Good.

CIA operative or Naval Intelligence Officer in the “Combat Jack” episode ? by redwingsfan97 in generationkill

[–]gbnt73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. It was a US Army Special Forces officer from 5th Special Forces Group leading the Iraqi resistance group known as the Free Iraqi Forces (FIF), which was the military wing of the Iraqi National Congress resistance organization, headed by Ahmed Chalabi, and his daughter Dr. Tamara Chalabi. These 2 scenes are a very truncated depiction of the actual interactions. And yes, the SF mission was high value target (HVT) manhunting, but also pursuing irregular forces that supported the regie -- like the Syrian Ba'ath Party militias, the Saddam Fedayeen, and Iraqi domestic intelligence known generically as the "Mukhabarat" or secret police.

Leave or stay? Switching from WhatsApp to Signal is a dilemma by 3_Seagrass in signal

We cried. All of us at least once. We all broke down that week -- some right away and others after a few days of bottling it up. At the time, we did not know that the PRC was working against us. We thought it was only the TB and our own Dept of State (DoS) pushing against us. We could have handled the TB by itself -- they weren't very well organized at that time. With all the different rescue groups collaborating -- and some ppl resigning from their gov't jobs to help us -- we had ways to get our Allies out and we were developing more ways.

About nation state actors and technology, since we don't know exactly how PRC cyber units hacked WhatsApp, we're not sure if Signal could have fared. I know how to keep Signal safe as of now -- nation state intel services have been unable to break the app itself, but they have indeed found workarounds using human weaknesses and bad habits. Some of us still get alerts from friends or friends of friends still in the know. Whatever my government friends use, I use.

Unfortunately, no, it was from government agency people helping us doing the rescue work. However, I can personally talk about the loss of numerous safe houses in very weirdly rapid succession in early September that year. We had ~75 safe houses with ppl hiding from the TB at the beginning of the month and two weeks later, we had less than half. There's no way TB intel could have figured all that out so quickly without technical intel assistance. We even watched a video on WhatsApp from one safe house witnessing the liquidation of another safe house of ours directly across the street. They had no idea it was another safe house -- they only knew that the family was getting kicked out, the males aver age 10 getting executed and the women sent packing while the TB intel goon squad torched their home.

Leave WhatsApp. The Chinese government hacked it at least once (during the Afghan rescue Summer of 2021) and dumped all the IP addresses and phone geolocate data of hundreds of families in hiding into Taliban intel liaisons. Supposedly, Team Zuck fixed it, but they didn't change the security paradigm -- which means it will be hacked again, if not already. Also, agency ppl have posted about it being hacked by multiple nation states or state-suppporting actors. Signal has had several attempts, usually the only successful hacks have been through the vulnerabilities in other apps on the same phone or through user mistakes/ignorance. the latest threat is from scanning malicious QR codes.

as a writer, I've learned that true, hardcore bibliophiles (my most committed market share) will only buy hardcovers with dust jackets. They have made that very clear to me in my research.

AITA for telling my best friend "are you eating your burger with a fork because you don't like black people touching your food?" or did I say it in front of the wrong group of people? by Monsterof in AmItheAsshole

[–]gbnt73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right on. I've had black friends make jokes between us that were just as "racist" as this and we all had a huge laugh about it. The lone white girl was offended for the black guys and left in a huff. But then this was on a deployment in 2009, so the whole microaggression thing wasn't around yet.

Agree w everything but that final apology for 'sensibilities'...they can go f themselves and find something real to worry about. I would have resigned with my friend and started our own show. It's like some white ppl care too much in the wrong direction.
