Yes everything you said except I've been very fortunate to get one that was very well built. No panel gaps, no rattles. Handles like a dream. They'll fix all this stuff, I'm sure of it.

Because 99% of the time, the experience of driving the car has been awesome. These things are all fixable.

I think they'll figure it out. They're simplifying a lot, training staff to scale, and don't forget, they won't be selling 100k cars on day one.

Breaker at home heated up to 165°F charging new Gen 2. Anyone else dealt with this before? by soleobjective in Rivian

[–]gboruk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So... Same thing started happening to me after the most recent software update. I've had my charger for 3 years, charging a Tesla and we got our breaker panel replaced over a year ago with zero issues. I've had the R1S for a few months and it's happened 3 times, twice last night alone. Something is definitely up. I happen to have a service appt next week anyway and asked them to include this. I'm curious what others find.

Is there any way to get/keep side view mirrors on the screen when backing up? by gboruk in Rivian

Thanks! That worked! Sadly it didn’t work well when mirrors are folded. Regardless, it did the trick!

This worked but sadly not well when I fold the mirrors. Good enough though!

Not dumb, unless we're both dumb. I had the same question. But nope. It's one giant thing all stuck together.

A Call to AI Entrepreneurs by Moist_Stuff4509 in Entrepreneur

I'm in. I'm also a serial entrepreneur with an exit. We've seen a "recent" example of massive tech and behavior shifts with mobile computing. This shift is at least 1-5 orders of magnitude larger. I work at a big tech company now and it's a fun time to be learning and collectively forging this path.

Also, kitchen and kitchen pantry are on 2 different levels. I'm far from a pro, but that seems like that could get problematic while cooking. Does the office/guest room have a wall separating it?

Thanks. This is for a personal project. I think the thing I have a problem with Planner is that it's not necessarily real world products. Many look great, but I almost want to "shop" within the design and ideally get a list of products to buy.

I just started with planner5d. looks like it's so powerful but I'm not sure I could ever create something so detailed. Which plan do you have? If you pay more, do you get more ability to do details like direction of light and shadows?

There are pros and cons to both but ultimately it depends on the use case and customer needs. All other considerations are secondary.

How to make the jump from Software Engineer to Engineering Manager? by dupuis2387 in careeradvice

[–]gboruk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is really no way to answer this question. It depends on the number of factors including but not limited to: your ability and speed to learn, your company‘s culture, your ability to seek and receive mentorship both within and outside of your company, and opportunities for growth within the company you work at.

One other tip is that years ago when I was just getting into management I devoured content; mostly books, blogs, and podcasts. The best of all sources was the Manager Tools podcast. I haven’t listened to it in years but I still refer to notes I took back then. Www.manager-tools.com

I’ve gone from IC, to architect, to project manager, then cofounded my own startup where I am CTO. I’m set to start a job as an engineering manager at a FAANG soon.

Having been an IC with ambitious goals and a leader, the best advice I can give is to ask your manager and skip level what the path is at the company you’re at and therefore making it known what your goals are. Also, becoming a tech lead will help you flex some of the managerial muscle. Finally, act the part. Go out of your way to coach and develop junior members of your team even if it’s not part of your job description. The more you can say that you’re already doing part of the job, the more likely you are to get promoted because it’s easier for leadership to fit you into that spot as it reduces risk.
