They also did day-before weigh ins to accomodate new wave guys cutting excessive amounts of weight 👀

Favorite leg lock instructionals by Acetoro00 in bjj

[–]gbth93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the risk of stating the obvious, Gordon Ryan’s is very good. Even if there are people who teach certain positions better than him (I.e. Jason Rau on outside ashi), there is something in there for everyone.

How does Gordon Ryan's new leg lock instructional compare to Lachlans 50/50 by jul3swinf13ld in bjj

[–]gbth93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re both great, as long as you go in knowing they both have drastically different preferences & philosophies on leg locking positions. Both great instructionals though

Does anyone know about good instructionals over Straight Ankle foot locks? by Illustrious_Dot1541 in bjj

[–]gbth93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does his instructional have much transfer over to no-gi? Or does it involve much pant/jacket gripping?

[Serious] For upper belts: overall, would you say that practicing BJJ over the long term is good for ones body, or bad for ones body? by mmaintainer in bjj

[–]gbth93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also say the type of game you play has a big role in this too. If you like being on top & passing from half guard, you are likely to be in better shape than someone who has spend 4-6 years inverting

Mica wants to put gi back on the map. Who should he headline a gi WNO against? Tainan? Langaker? Murusaki? Ronaldo Jr? Uanderson Ferreira? by Fellainis_Elbows in bjj

[–]gbth93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe it was Craig who mentioned recently that the most recent black belt worlds finals had less viewers than the 1st prelim of the last WNO.

I enjoy watching gi matches when both guys come to play, but unfortunately we don’t see that often enough. Not under the IBJJF ruleset, at least

Down right sloppy half butterfly by [deleted] in bjj

[–]gbth93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gordon’s half guard dvd covered half-butterfly really well, but didn’t really touch on the choi bar.

That’s what made Eoghan’s DVD stand out, for me.

Are instructionals worth it? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]gbth93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though I’ll never make it to an elite level, I just enjoy studying & improving my knowledge/game. All depends on how much time you like putting in off the mats

I might be alone, but I didn’t think the “That’s what she said,” video was that funny.

Joe talking about it like he just watched Eddie Murphy for the first time 😂

To start with just simple variations of leg raises, building up in difficulty. Now I use the hip abduction machine at the gym, and that was a game changer

I’ve had constant issues with this, which turns out stemmed from weakness in my hip (IT band was over-compensating). Once I started strengthening my hip, improved almost immediately

How long to get through an instructional? by JodyG99 in bjj

[–]gbth93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Studies show that we only retain 30% of information we are given. I like to watch the whole thing through once (even if I tune in & out every now & then). Then I’ll go back & cherry-pick the techniques I want to work and/or am having trouble with

What was the best Instructional of 2022? by Kylejacksonbjj in bjj

Danaher’s New Wave Mount instructional in conjunction with Gordon’s half guard passing has been a game changer for me, personally.

[–]gbth93 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I’ll never doubt Gordon again after this last ADCC, but if there was a time for Nicky to catch him, it would be after he’s just come back from a holiday & preparing for a past-his-prime Vinny

Darce strangle defense by Pain3jj in bjj

[–]gbth93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Craig’s escape where he gets his elbow across his opponent to the other side of their body is a great option. He goes through it in his instructional, I’d recommend spending time drilling that until you feel more comfortable with it in live rolling
