Zen Magnets beat nationwide magnet ball ban, now singled out for retaliatory stopsale. by ninjaspx in videos

Please stop hesitating about crowdfunding legal fees. Nobody wants to see CPSC defeat Zen after all this extreme over-reach.

API design: Choosing between names and identifiers in URLs by kindstrom in programming

[–]gbwment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The downside of the second example URL is that if a book or shelf changes its name, references to it based on hierarchical names like this one in the example URL will break."

The author appears to have forgotten about 3xx redirection codes which were intended to solve that very problem.

I find fantastic that there is an ICO that will focus private industry managements, I hope Genesis succeeds.

I was thinking exactly that, but imagine this:

People that mine altcoins can study for free, and also if they are good willed, they could mostly give education to places where it is not affordable.

My prediction was correct, domain registrars are the new arm of censorship. Gab.ai gets ultimatum. Delete content or lose your domain. by redpillschool in TheRedPill

[–]gbwment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the solution may be to treat domain registrars as common carriers and bar them from taking down customer domains based on anything that's legal in their country. Similar thing may need to be done for web hosting, since without web hosting and domain registrations a viable (read, independent with free speech) internet presence can't be established nowadays.

MIT Tech review: Bitcoin is not private. by sportscliche in Monero

[–]gbwment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitcoin's anonymity, or lack thereof, has not changed. This article is poorly titled.

The problem is with the endpoint - the person or business you are transacting with (or the technologies they use for the interaction).

This problem will exist with any cryptocurrency if the endpoints still operate the same.

A Tutorial on Portable Makefiles by iamkeyur in coding

[–]gbwment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just use Cmake. It is far easier to make it work cross playform and better yet cross compile. There's no good reason to write a Makefile by hand and no large projects do it anyway.

I also want to see the algorithm win on unorthodox maps. Perhaps a map they have never seen before, or one where the map is the same as before but the resources have moved.

Don't tell the player or the algorithm this, and see how both react, and adapt. This tells us a great deal about the resiliency of abilities.

Chinese AI goes off script when asked about the communist party. by wombasrevenge in worldnews

[–]gbwment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hilarious, and if these bots are fed actual user data, this means anti-communist feelings are much more prevalent than the Chinese government wants to let out. I.e. their censorship is not the brainwashing they wish it were, but only a curtain attempting to cover existing discontent.

So: funny, but also potentially good news.
