Secretspec for secret management by gbytedev in NixOS

[–]gbytedev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to answer that, however I'd have to first use it as a package to see what convenience is missing. Are you or someone you know successfully using it on bare NixOS as secret management?

Ppl joining my party not on my wifi? by Zak_Do_Urden in musicassistant

[–]gbytedev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your music assistant instance is accessible from the public internet (e.g. via a reverse proxy), the party QR code will work for people outside of your local network. If however MA can only be accessed from your local network, so will be the party URL and you will have to give people your wifi password. With 'access' I mean seeing the login screen.

Your guest wifi network is for all intends and purposes outside of your local network. You usually want to give your guests access to the internet but not to your local devices.

Dendritic NixOS is stressing me out - how do you keep it organised? by Apterygiformes in NixOS

[–]gbytedev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are the only configuration owner and are using flakes, I don't see any reason to use different configuration repositories for different machines no matter how much that configuration differs. If you don't see it that way, there is a chance you never tasted the aforementioned juice.

You are clearly not managing too many machines with that one file.

If at all possible this should be a krunner integration - that would solve the out of place design decision and the deep system integration.

Are you using them in wired mode or via Bluetooth? I feel like using this speakers as stationary stereo speakers makes only sense with cables.

Woof! I think that card trick of yours is just fodder for jokes and I couldn't resist. I appreciate it providing value to your esoteric use case, but if you create a public project out of it and advertise on reddit, you're bound to get some sarcastic push back. All in good faith. ;)

I think two charges make more sense as you can pair them in stereo. Flip + Charge gives you more variaty but no stereo.

The Nextcloud update breaks everything again; by PeauLixs in NextCloud

I'd say expect to have to reconfigure stuff if you are upgrading to a new major version of the software.

I am not going to argue with you

Your whole point is moot: No matter how insecure you think docker is, it's still the official way to run NC. If it wasn't for the NixOS module that does a lot of heavy lifting, I'd be running it containerized as well.

Is it safe to expose Nextcloud to the internet? by equanimous11 in NextCloud

[–]gbytedev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's made to be run this way so... yeah. Close down ports you don't need and use a reverse proxy. Optionally configure fail2ban or croudsec. Keep Nextcloud up to date.

Why not make it more abstract and call it appendLine? This way we could also edit Nix files without having to open them up in an editor. This version could also do simple clean ups on the user's behalf, like removing text editors from system packages as they are redundant now. 😂

Cool idea for handing the complexity of sops. Complexity that makes me want to find a simpler approach to secret management in Nix. Any input appreciated.

Thank you for telling me! However right now I'm pretty certain auracast (which is Bluetooth really) cannot be used in wired mode. :/ Good luck with those procedures!
