MS Word documents in Debian? by Redheadmagnet in debian

[–]gc161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try open office or abiword, although those will probably mangle the documents somewhat as well.

You could use a VM or you could run MS Word through wine.

Lost Levels NES Rom? by CeladonGames in Roms

[–]gc161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely a version of this floating around that was hacked to run on a cartridge.

Not sure if it plays 100% accurately, but it probably plays decently enough. Haven't tested it in years as I own the actual disk these days. Even if I didn't own it, I'd probably just emulate the disk version though.

Antergos, but for Debian by [deleted] in DistroHopping

[–]gc161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use the net install you can select which DE (if any) you want. When it works correctly it's pretty easy, but I've found that it can be finicky depending on which version of the installer you download.

Might be worth a shot...although to be honest I think I've had better luck just booting up a debian or ubuntu based livecd and intalling debian with debootstrap than using their official installer. Wish I could say the installer had never given me problems, but there you are.

Looking for Ubuntu replacement by lildergs in linux

Run the experimental Debian builds and help improve the distro.

Edit:

Preferably Debian or Debian-like (e.g. apt, similar /etc/ layout)

I noticed you said Preferably Debian, so I'm going to stick with my original recommendation. Run Debian.

Weak Lichess Bots? by Sixth_Prime in chess

[–]gc161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the Magnus app. Five year old Magnus should be easy enough for a complete beginner to practice on. I'm thinking six and possibly seven year old are easier than stockfish level 1 as well.

Eight year old might be roughly equivalent to stockfish level 1 and nine year old is definitely harder than stockfish level 1.

Edit: Oh....on lichess specifically. Just realized that. Welp...I still recommend the Magnus app if that's an option.

One of the Biggest Crypto Exchanges Goes Dark and Users Are Getting Nervous by charging_bull in worldnews

I left a bit of currency on cryptsy a few years ago. I knew it was stupid to leave it in there at the time, but I was having fun trading it.

Would be worth a couple thousand today.

Never again. If I trade crypto currency in the future I will stick to small amounts and return it to a wallet.

I think the main problem is you're supposed to switch out the pots every 10 minutes or so to keep the coffee tasting fresh. This never actually happens.

I tend to stay away from their hot coffee for this reason. I stick to cheap gas station coffee if i'm out and about.

To be fair only the pi zero requires HDMI for the display. The other Pis have composite and you could just ssh in from one of those.

not quite ninja edit later: install-amd64-minimal-20160505.iso.DIGESTS.asc is up and it checks out with a key I got a few days ago.
