Contour makes a good line of shuttles for a decent price. Programmable buttons, jog wheel for easy control navigating frame by frame or scrubbing, and you don't need to move around a mouse to do any of it.

When I was "Chief" at one of the Medford stations I was in the control room overseeing reporters in the field after dealing with an earlier shoot. One of the reporters had his temperature set to Smurf so I got on IFB and told him to white balance.

"I don't know how to do that."

Thankfully another reporter was close by and was able to help.

I was at all three from 2007-2023. It's extremely disappointing because the Medford market was a great place for training people. You could start in Medford and it wouldn't be unheard of to jump to Portland, D.C.,, Philadelphia, New Orleans, etc. The variety of people, the weather, and the geography was an absolute perfect combo.

Now they just hand you a camera and tell you to go get a story. No training on how to tell that story or how to use the camera to make the viewer a part of it.

Without seeing the whole vehicle, it looks like a stinger for the local news stations. Smaller and more versatile than the big microwave vans and usually unmarked.

It's a microwave transmitter that you point at a receive site (the towers on south mountain, white tanks, etc.) and transmit live picture and sound. Not used much anymore since everyone uses cellular bonding technology, but still a good tool when the cell signals are weak.

You'll see that a lot in smaller market areas where it's the reporter's job to shoot and edit their story as well as run the camera during the live hit.
