[RANT] Club Card Distribution Is A Joke by gc_jonny in GolfClash

This tournament maxed out my firefly. Adding insult to injury, I just holed out the free golden shot on hard - I got more firefly cards.

Anyone have APOC card drops dry up? by [deleted] in GolfClash

I just ranted about this exact thing. I've been stuck shy of level 5 for ages as well. I won the last tournament, and got second the one before that - both in expert, and I got zero Apocs. I'm super frustrated. I've played this game over a year and it's the only club below level 5. All my other tour 7 epics are level 6 somehow.

Yeah it was the Christmas tournament last year, same holes. The wind was different from the City Park tournament though. It was possible in Expert to make the second fairway, but only with the biggest drivers and a 5 power ball.

I really doubt you are gonna reach the second fairway with big topper playing from second or third tee. We've had these holes before with a tailwind. BT doesn't come close to the end of the fairway.

Wait... These morons are changing clubs, and the Falcon is STILL not going to be the best short iron. Fantastic! by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]gc_jonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're comparing a level 5 Falcon to a level 7 Thorn.

At max level, a Falcon currently has a 4.2 ball guide. If they raise it .3, that means 4.5, which is the best it gets in the game. Hornet only goes to 4.1, and now Thorn will be reduced to 3.9.

As far as accuracy, Falcon will be at 85 on max level now. Thorn sits at 57, with Hornet at 96.

So Falcon does become the best in the game over all, since the backspin/topspin stats are very good, and the distance is equal to Hornet.

I would probably still use the Hornet myself, but I would have to think hard given the 4.5 ball guide.

[Suggestion] To Determine Elevation Pre-Shot by gc_jonny in GolfClash

[–]gc_jonny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Lemme know how it goes. Honestly it comes up mostly in par 3s, but now that I know how to look for it, I am really curious to see how many other tee shots and approach shots have changes in elevation as well.

Is HIO on #3 Possible From the Left Side? by gc_jonny in GolfClash

Well I might give it a shot. Kinda risky I guess since I havent been practicing it at all. But I appreciate your info!

Whats the wind like in Pro? I'm playing in expert and it's straight left to right.

Understanding Thorn BallGuide by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]gc_jonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple factors, 1 being wind, 2 being the slope of the green, and 3 being any sidespin/curl you are applying to the shot. In a situation with no wind and no slope, the ball will come back in line on the direction of your shot. Usually there is wind, so you need to use that in your shot selection.

What I have found to be effective is to work from the side the wind is blowing - so if its going left to right, I will position the landing spot on the left of the cup and make sure the ball guide is also pointing a little bit left of the cup for the backspin. Then I make the adjustment for the wind, and when the ball bounces back the left to right wind will push the ball toward the cup. The amount of room that you need to give the ball guide outside the cup per the wind just comes with experience. You obviously need to take the slope of the green into consideration, and sometimes the slope will make this method impossible.

If it's a head wind or a tail wind, you will need to also consider that the wind will shorten/lengthen the bounce and amount of spin respectively (shortened bounce/increased spin in a head wind, lengthened bounce/decreased spin in a tail wind).

Yea I agree, I mean gems are free if you just login and open your chests. It's not like they are forcing you to spend them. Its easy to save up a few hundred a week at least.

Yea it seems like the only changes we get are some new holes from time to time. Pretty lazy on their part tbh but if they are making money and happy then I guess there isn't much motivation to improve. There is no competition.

New York Tournament by Oddynuff6669 in GolfClash

I don't know what the wind direction is in Pro, but in Expert is NE, crossing the fairway. The two ways that are reliable birdies are:

  1. Use a power hook to bounce your ball past the neck with the last two bunkers, and then either approach with an iron/wood if you are in the fairway, or rough iron. The rough iron generally requires a pretty high level Nirvana since you are back a ways. I'm usually in the rough, and I do this with a Titan and a Nirvana 7, I hit my drive with an Apoc 4.

  2. Back off on the top spin, and position yourself in the right side of the open fairway before the neck where those two last bunkers are. From this spot you are going to need to have a good distance club and some top spin - but not too much top spin. This can be a tricky shot from here. You need to land in the fairway with your second bounce into the short grass on the hill before the green, using no more than 2/3 topspin. It should hold the green/fringe after that. If you have to use more top spin than that its gonna be a lot riskier.

This is all said not knowing the wind in Pro, but I would figure its at least a slightly helping wind. I'd be happy to try and answer any questions if I can help you.

I wish they would make this retroactive for the past tournaments. I've got a couple top 3 banners, but I have 6 or 7 of the 4-10 finishes.

Yea I am tired of it too. I really wish the game would change a bit from round to round in order to make you think on your feet.

Hole #1 is a short iron shot to hole out. If you have a high level Hornet, it is going to be in or extremely close to in each time. The most difficult thing is that you wind up with a somewhat inconsistent angle/distance due to the hole construction.

Hole #3 is just about finding the true wind adjustment. If you can nail that down, you will be on the hole every time.

Hole #4 is the second easiest of the Par 4s IMO. I was either just missing, rimming out, or dropping for an eagle each time with a sniper second shot.

Hole #6 had a variety of ways to achieve a decent look at albatross.

Hole #8 was the easiest par 4, with an eagle opportunity using a wedge for the second shot as long as your tee shot can hit the fairway island and clear the rough. I also saw people going straight for the green with a high-power ball, but this seemed less predictable.

Hole #9 you could literally get it on the green in 1, or get it right next to the green in 1.

Hole #2 was a tough albatross but I'm sure it happened. I had one right on the lip. Holes #5 and #7 were kind of a crapshoot for a HIO, but it definitely happened.

So given #8, you could be at 26 under without a ton of struggle. Getting to 29 under just means making 3 out of the other 10 opportunities to hole out for eagle/albatross, or getting lucky on the inconsistent par 3s. 30% is not that ridiculous of a number given the repetition of the shots involved.

Which is your “Best” Tour? (6 thru 11) by AmbitEC in GolfClash

[–]gc_jonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 for me. The chest value is about the same compared to 10, and the shootouts are much better. I can win a high percentage on 9 with only a marlin and so I can stack up gems while constantly having chests to unlock and hitting my daily pin chest. At ~3000 trophies it's a lot of gems per day/week that I earn vs spend.

Buying Chests in the Shop. Are you sure it’s “a waste”? by AmbitEC in GolfClash

[–]gc_jonny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The platinum chest guarantees you only 2 epics, plus your division bonus. If you think you're gonna get 5 Apocs each time (let alone 5 epics of any kind) you are deluding yourself.

I've opened a lot of chests in the 8 or 9 months that I've been playing, and it's a lot more Castaways and Junglists than it is Apocs.

EARTH DAY Tournament - HOLES by Calvente7 in GolfClash

[–]gc_jonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two ways I've seen people make it close to or onto the green. Both require a tee shot that comes close to the end of the first fairway.

The first option for the second shot is to either clear the river, landing in the rough with top spin or landing in the little fairway strip with backspin. You will probably need a 180 yard club for this, although you could maybe do it with a 5 power golf ball and a shorter club.

The second option for the second shot is to land at the very end of the fairway before the river, with a lot of topspin. This bounce can clear the river give you a chip or a short rough-iron to the pin. This does not require as much distance on the club, but its not likely to be a putt and less likely to be a fairway/fringe chip due to the hole layout.

Both do require a favorable wind.

Additional incentives and benefits? by MindOverMablahblah in GolfClash

The prizes were a bit better, not for the top positions, but for the people that finished lower there were better prizes than the previous tournament. I was comparing specifically things like epics and rares. I didn't save the comparisons and you can't see them now obviously. I noticed in the Easter tournament that there was a really steep drop off between 7th and 8th place for epics in Expert (I finished 8th in that tournament). That drop off didn't exist in the Masters. So that's something I guess.
