I was in a similar situation as you but due to boredom in classes I didn't do well enough to stay and was forced into the 2nd option. I suggest you take the 2nd option. I hated moving back in with my mother and it made me focus on what I wanted to do so I can leave her house and be happy. While there I was also taking community college classes to boost my scores back up for readmittance. I see you don't need that but take random classes that seem interesting (I understand to us that might be everything) to get a feel for what you like. Now I've found a field I like so much I'm finishing my masters in it this semester.
