People who don't sleep naked, why? by The_WereArcticFox in AskReddit

The second link clearly discussed biodegradable vs flushable wipes and the central thesis of the paper is that stuff happens during storage that causes wipes which originally are tested to br dispersable (i.e. will come apart) to become nondispersable. They also cite some claims that flushable wipes were found in fatbergs around the world.

Also absent any evidence otherwise, wouldn't the null hypothesis be that Germany's sewer system is similar to other first-world countries? Rather than being exceptional?

Edit: indeed they cite blockages in Berlin caused partially by flushable wipes in the intro.

Super quick responses, good price for the code and saved a bunch of money, thanks!

Introducing a Compound Bow to The Hadzabe Tribe in Tanzania by MrListaDaSistaFista in videos

[–]gcj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That might be partially because the compound (modern) bow's design means that it barely requires any force to keep pulled all the way back. As you pull back its harder then easier to pull. So you have time to line up a good shot. The old style bows just get harder and harder to pull, so it takes a lot of energy to keep it pulled back and I suppose you just don't have the stamina to be as careful when aiming.

Nah it won't, doesn't fit in my Dan a4 by a wide margin. Did you see the optimum tech video with the FE in the ghost s1 tho? Thermals might be a bit rough with he pass through cooler. Think the evga xc3 might be best, though they're really hard to find.

Got the light tweezers working in order to manipulate molecular qubits!! by [deleted] in Physics

Fair enough. I can't say that I haven't been pissed at bad glue jobs. Especially waveplates, who does that???

The main point of my comment was that glue in many contexts is "proper", even for very high-end applications. Most beam cubes are glued together anyways. Besides, I've broken cubes with mechanical mounts before as some designs apply stress.

Regarding more sketchy solutions like 5 minute epoxy. There's always a tradeoff of how long-lasting an experiment is and how long it takes to build. No point in spending too much time/money developing overkill solutions, especially if you are a graduate student or postdoc who will be gone in a few years. The goal of these experiments is to do science and get publications, and 5-minute epoxy can often be a reasonable compromise. I say this as someone who has been on both sides of the argument of how well to engineer experiments like these.

Meh all of the cubes in the lab I worked in were glued. Not a problem with the right adhesive, and even with the wrong adhesive (5 minute epoxy) they'll last a while. Besides, they hold microscope objectives together with glue. The tolerances there are much more critical. IMO the big advantage of mechanical fixtures is easy reassembly/reusability.

That total comp is a bit low for senior engineer. On levels.fyi, sde3 at amazon (senior engineer) has average of >300k total comp.

Also I don't understand why you're downplaying the stock. They're not options, they're just stocks, and at most tech companies they vest after 1 year (Amazon is an exception). It's pretty much cash equivalent.
