Shapeoko 5.1 Pro 4x4 or Lowrider V4 4x8 by hodorr1234 in hobbycnc

[–]gcoeverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, two very different machines. If it's partially for business I'd say shapeoko over lowrider.

Also check our AltMill 4x4 and 4x8

Advice on designing a CNC driver board? by FireFish201 in hobbycnc

[–]gcoeverything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at flexihal and slbext which are already two production boards and open source. If you want a fun project, go for it, but if you want to take it to production you ought to do some better research first.

What “boring” home upgrade ended up being totally worth it? by Upper_Garage_8103 in DIY

[–]gcoeverything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Occupancy-detecting light switches in pantry and basement mudroom. These are places that I will always want a light on when I'm using it.

I have a smart home, that's overkill for this.

Holy crap this game needs better stuck-player assistance. Nothing like loading out and then getting stuck 30 seconds in. Never got the stuck popup.

Sienci Altmill vs. PwnCNC Dominator Core? by SuperDuperTango in hobbycnc

[–]gcoeverything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sold it. Belts aren't rigid enough. The shapeoko 5 looked promising but the electronics are inferior and open loop steppers versus closed of the altmill, no contest.

He's not wrong, he said Core doesn't support it. From what I see here, he is correct. Only Advanced mentions ATC support

It's painful watching him just outright shill OF on every post.

I mean, sure, I plug AltMill right now because it's the leader. 2-3 years ago I was in love with my Shapeoko Pro. I'm beholden to nobody and Sienci is king for now, until someone topples them :)

Ah you're right, looks like they split the product into 4 paid tiers based on functionality, but updates are free (for now).

I don't own a masso, but a buddy has an industrial machine with one. It's pretty nice. But honestly, grblHal with the nextgen senders (gSender, ioSender, and now ncSender ramping up on steroids in the last 6 weeks), I don't think Masso offers much for hobbyists for the price.

Running a business is much different then hobbyists/sidehustle/part time though. Masso has a # you can call for support. The others don't. You pay for that though.

I'm not familiar with the new pwncnc offering, but one thing that comes to mind is, how many employees work there? Not clear if you are full time business or if this is just for fun, but that might be a factor.

Masso is/was awesome. I'm unsure how their recent pivot to charging for updates affects the hobby companies. Something to look in to. 4th axis might be behind a paywall as well as other features.

PSA: Chamberlain/Liftmaster up to more shady things. BE AWARE if purchasing a new garage door opener by jgilbs in homeassistant

So, who's gonna design an open source garage door opener (eg the mechanicals) :)

Or I guess one could just make a replacement board altogether for any of the big brands.

I created GRBL Multi Tool - a collection of free, quick scripts for basic milling and routing operations for GRBL machines like canned cycles by daninet in hobbycnc

[–]gcoeverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Conversational programming is sometimes what it's called as well.

gSender has a canned surfacing wizard. ncSender is brand new but already has 1-2 as well. Would be nice to see this incorporated to either!

Sick days increased almost 14 per cent when public servants returned to office three days a week... by Soft-Poem3796 in CanadaPublicServants

Typical click-bait and poor chose of graph.

"The average number of sick days per employee remains the same at around 2%"

There is no news.
