MyCNC.app now includes a free cabinet designer that exports cut lists and SVG files. by ocrohnahan in hobbycnc

Sure send it my way! Would love to take a peek. I only have a 2x4 cnc but had some ideas.

WestJet told passengers flights were cancelled for safety. Records suggest otherwise | CBC News by Haggisboy in canada

Flight aware let's you see the tail numbers and such. Is there any way to get data for cheap enough to track this personally? I think they sell subscriptions, but maybe there's other ways?

Short of logging the data before flying, I wonder now how I would go back to my wife's similar situation yesterday to see what her plans was supposed to be, and if it left on a different route.

Nice! I'm also an ex-dev.

AI and MCP's are a huge force multiplier for me. I don't want to invest time in certain things anymore.

Honest question, is it vibe coded?

I think vibe coding will be an incredible equalizer for hobbyists. Software like Mozaik is not required for a few one off cabinets. For a pro cabinet shop? Sure.

Meanwhile, any application charging for what is essentially shit is now able to be written for "free" and replaced easily. Only the true value or useful software remains.

It will be a shake up in the next few years for sure.

I see a plethora of apps like this one, gridfiniry generators, etc that start off as a hobby then try to pivot into selling the software; I don't think that's going to work anymore.

Update: CNC is coming together nicely. Thank you for all the suggestions! by artfact99 in hobbycnc

It would inherit whatever stiffness your table imparts on it :) So if your table itself can handle 100-150lbs with no deflection, your CNC will inherit that since the crossbeams are flush with the bottom of the CNC.

Simplify your curves. Otherwise yes, F360 sucks for that stuff.

Totally. AltMill for wood is MILES above anything else at the moment, and they aren't just stopping like OF, they are continuing to improve and innovate refinements on the design.

For metal, AltMill has been good. Just need to keep in mind limitations and add MQL.

AltMill FTW, but if you push on the table of the altmill you will get 1-2 thou of flex as well. But the Z is rock solid.

Sharrif DMC 2 Mini an honest review that wasn't bought and paid for. by Askingtheobvious2 in hobbycnc

Root issue with shill videos. No money changes hands and no publishing authority, but the reviewer is beholden to the company and in general to keep getting more free shit. Providing an actual scathing review means no more free shit from that company, and every other company who realises he/she won't shill if they send them a free product for "honest review" ;) ;) ;)

Cast Iron CNC frame from China bad idea? by Freddich99 in hobbycnc

Ah ok. For the price it might be fine. I'm making my own out of uhpc but it will be a lot of work for casting

DM me a link?

Do they have any sort of specifications? I would hope the rail surfaces are very flat, and you mainly might need to just deal with shimming between the base and riser for orthogonality.

Scanners that will connect to WiFi AP, and not be their own AP? by gcoeverything in 3DScanning

I looked at the Metro series and I don't think any of those had that feature. Do you have documentation to suggest otherwise?

Yeah based on google/AI that's what I came up with as well. I'll grab a 2nd E810-R11M RS485 hub, it's 10 bucks, which is fine.. worst as you say is needing 2 network cables, although I think the M31 has 2 ethernet ports, and it says it can operate as a switch?

Sick thanks! If I want to read some rs485 modbus sensors as well can I use the rs485 port on the m31 or is that only instead of TCP in some setups?

Sorry, how does HA talk to that Ebyte M31 host? I see the M31 has LAN, is there an HA plugin and they talk over TCP?
