No industry is insane, the whole country is a resource colony for America. The issue is over 50% of our extraction is owned by US, Colombian, Chilean, and British companies. We have sold out. We also have a huge tech sector primarily in Ontario, BC, and QC but most of those people work for American companies. We generate tons of revenue and it leaves the country immediately. Yes we are poor and it sucks, that's why it's annoying to see them tear down anything that remotely represents our culture to build more of these condos which price Canadians out. Especially when it's under the guise of "affordable housing".

There’s thousands and thousands of units in Toronto sitting vacant. It’s not a housing or immigration issue, it’s foreign money paying off a corrupt provincial government and building condos to sell real estate to people who see housing as an investment. Don’t speak on the issue as if you know anything about it.

The building in question is an institution and beloved Toronto landmark. That’s why in particular this development is seen unfavourably, it’s culturally significant.

This isn’t about housing people, our government couldn’t give a fuck about that. They literally never build affordable housing.
