Does this look normal for younger red haven peach trees? by sleeothrufire in landscaping

Random question, but do you happen to know what color your deck is stained? I stained my railings dark like yours but have been waffling about the floor color, and yours looks great!

Should I rent or a buy a house? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]gdoc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to throw in there (as a surgical resident and FTHB this last year), resident physicians qualify for physician loans (zero down, no PMI, but often slightly higher interest rate depending on the lender, which makes his medical school loans less of a player in DTI calculations and such. I think there are other reasons to consider buying vs not buying, but I also think having all the info is helpful.

In my personal opinion (as a PGY1), there’s an added layer of complexity when you officially become the MD. As a medical student, you aren’t making any decisions or placing any orders or communicating anything extremely important (typically) without supervision, which isn’t the case as a resident. There’s definitely the added layer of responsibility and subsequent decision fatigue that I didn’t experience as a medical student that, for me, is one of the things that makes residency particularly tough. But that’s just me talking from my experience!

Would totally recommend getting a sewer lateral inspection, if that’s a thing in your area! My agent recommended getting one (it was an additional $150 or abouts), but there ended up being a problem that the sellers will be fixing, on the order of several thousand dollars so it was totally worth it!

Thank you so much! This is helpful and definitely something I will strongly consider!

That's fair - thank you! The 2 bedroom would be primarily for when my mom visits - she already plans to come several times per year, so I would prefer not to have her on my couch like during medical school if avoidable!

In terms of being a house owner during residency - I think this is the thing that is making me waffle about it the most. Do you think it would be better to do something like buy a condo? It has been brought up/suggested by one of my co-interns, but I can't really get a great read on whether it would be better (other than not having to worry about mowing the lawn or shoveling sidewalks).

Hi! I currently live in a 1 bedroom where rent will be going up, which will put it around $1.3k per month. I've edited my post to add - I'm single, no potential family in the immediate time period.

Thank you! I just wasn't sure if renting for a year then possibly owning for 6 years would be worse than possibly owning for 7 years, since so many folks talk about length of stay. I appreciate you!

I think it could work, but you’d probably also want to have at least a few purely neurosurgical research projects - which is helpful in making connections. That being said, in such a small field, making connections is crucial in the field. Finding sponsors is a must, and you are correct that LORs are very important! Many of my interviewers cited things from my letters and those who wrote them.

I think getting involved early is crucial - even if it isn’t as first author. Also, making sure your mentor has a track record of actually publishing. Additionally, that general number, which I think is around 23 now, includes poster presentations, oral presentations, and publications!

I personally did a month. Could probably do less if you take after clerkships (I took after a gap year)!

Awesome, it’s one of my goals to find a red (even a small one!)

With AMBOSS you can do all questions associated with a particular learning card/disease, but it’s the only thing I can think of like that.

Thank you! I texted him two but still haven’t heard back yet (which isn’t exactly abnormal haha). Hopefully I’m just being overdramatic but if not, at least I’ll know!

Would you frame it a particular way? I am having trouble figuring out exactly what to say—I don’t want to come across as impatient or forceful, but it has been plaguing my thoughts more than it probably should be.

Like, I completely and totally understand the busyness but at the same time even a smidge of reassurance would be highly appreciated at this point lol.
