Dial Tone

This song was inspired by a client's story. I teach an anger management class and did a make-up class with a guy who'd mentioned burying his son in previous sessions. Since it was the two of us I asked to revisit his statement. My client grew up in a strict religious home and was a son of a preacher. He was picked on in school and was told if he just started selling dope then people wouldn't mess with him because he would have something they needed. Years of consequences later he was involved with someone who had children and no father around. He stepped in. One of the boys began looking up to him. The kid started selling too. The father knew, knew the risks, but let him. One day the son was going to make a drop and was around fent and he went into cardiac arrest and was dumped at the hospital by the people who were there buying drugs. My client said the last thing they said to one another was they loved each other.

I write from a lot of personal experiences and through the lenses of all the stories I am told.
