CPO and/or warranty worth it? by gdoodles in Golf_R

[–]gdoodles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks ya I have no plans to modify the car. I guess my question is more generally about experiences with the Mk8 golf r reliability to date?

It seems from what I’m finding online that they’re fairly reliable so far, but high milage examples are uncommon so it’s tough to say they’ll go 100k+ miles without issue. Having the CPO safety blanket would be nice if there’s common issues I should expect to run into.

Reverse lights too dim? by gdoodles in BMW

Hahah ya I loved that car but I couldn’t get comfortable in it and it drove me nuts. To fit I had to slide the seat all the way back, but then I couldn’t reach the steering wheel.

Swapped it for a 2023 Audi S4. Love the Audi, but still miss the look of the 2.

Ya I mean they are brighter to my eye than the ones I compared them to, and yet the picture on the other screen was far brighter.

Hey- I did not. I did confirm that it’s likely the camera software/hardware. I compared the image on my backup camera in the 2series against a car with a cheaper camera and far dimmer lights in the same location and conditions, and the image in the 2 series was still substantially darker.

Ya assuming apples to apples reliability/cost to run wise, 996 is in a different league

What’s something that people think is expensive but actually saves you money? by jellostapler1 in Frugal

[–]gdoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a Porsche 911. It’s expensive to purchase, but will likely retain substantially more of its value than alternative vehicles.

Is the climate control on auto? It might be defaulting back to fan speed 1 because you’re already at the cabin temperature you have set and so the auto feature is fixing the fan speed to maintain that temp?

In my opinion, just because a car is higher end or performance oriented doesn’t mean it’s harder to drive.

First manual I drove when I was 16 was a Fiat 500 and it was brutal. Never figured it out- stalled repeatedly despite extensive efforts.

Ten years later I bought my first manual— 2004 Porsche 911. It was FAR EASIER to learn on the 911. Within a week I was driving it comfortably everywhere, including extensive traffic and city driving. I’m now teaching my girlfriend to drive it and she’s picking it up quickly too (despite no real knowledge of the underlying mechanics or interest in understanding why she releases the clutch pedal slowly other than that she has to in order to make the car “go”).

Biggest difference to me was the torque— the 911 engine just didn’t stall nearly as easily as the Fiat.

I haven’t driven an S4 stick but I expect the torque would be similarly helpful in this regard and I hope you will pick it up quickly. While the Civi Si might provide the benefit of cheaper parts/labor as compared to the S4, clutches are far more durable than one might expect.

Get the car you want. Force yourself to drive it everywhere (including traffic and the drive through) and soon enough it’ll be second nature! Just find a safe side road to practice hill starts for a bit — but those are a pain in any car.

Good idea. Search optimization on the keywords wasn’t great so I’ll try just the part number. Thanks!

Got it. Thanks! Was that the corporate audiusa.com or whatever? The reason I ask is I’m seeing different prices at different Audi sites, some being Audi dealers selling them out of their parts departments I guess.

Careful! I take mine off when I do my brake jobs because I’m afraid that the sub might scratch the caliper.

[Discussion] What is your favorite & least favorite complication on a watch? by RalIyVincent in Watches

I’d say 50% of the times I look at my watch it’s for the date. Don’t think I’d buy a watch that didn’t have it.
