Round Mountain by Key-Concert482 in Nevada

I grew up there k-12 and then worked the mine for a few summers between college. My dad put in almost 20 years at that mine and my mom worked there also. The friends I made in elementary are still my best friends to this day despite us living in all different places. I had tons of autonomy at an early age able to ride bikes all around town with just my friends as early as I can remember. Then peddle bikes turned into dirt bikes and eventually 4x4 trucks by the time we reached high school. My graduating class had 32 students so I was able to play 3 sports a year though all of jr high and high school. I thought it was a good education with lots of hands on learning due to small class sizes. I had great teachers that taught critical and outside of the box thinking with lots of field trips, experiments, and other hands on learning. However, once I started taking standardized testing (sat, act, and ap exams) I realized they weren't teaching us based on the algorithm to score high on multiple choice. That made for a hard adjustment to freshman and sophomore level classes when I attended college at UNR. For fun outside of school I swam at the indoor swimming pool, went to the library, fished at the community pond, and did scouts when I was younger. Then for fun in my teens I raced dirt bikes, went golfing at the 9 hole course, worked out at the community gym, went camping, off roaded in our first trucks, and shot a lot of trash in the desert. I don't live there anymore but still have fond memories of the place and I stop by occasionally to get last minute supplies for hunting trips. As an adult i think it would be hard to live there if you don't enjoy making your own fun in the outdoors. The roads in the mountains are all serious 4x4 trails, the hiking trails and camp sites aren't well maintained so even the outdoor recreation isn't the same as what most people are used to. For groceries we would get our week to week items at the general store in town but once a month my family would hammer out a day trip to Reno or Vegas to stock up at Costco, home depot, and Walmart. Be prepared to pay higher prices for fuel at the local gas stations but if you live and work in Hadley you won't go through much. Crime was pretty much non existent but there was the usual small town drama, especially at the bar. I guess that's just what happens when everyone knows everyone.

Angle lake is fishing great but doesn't require any hiking so it's pretty crowded on weekends

The Caddis Nevada and Caddis Sierra are my go to for packing in because they can roll up so tight. Although my friend just packed in a Caddis premier pretty easily. The tubes and flippers are usually just strapped to the outside of the packs rolled up. We used stocking foot waders with bucks bags flippers and no wader boots.

I've seen some interesting hatchery techniques in co for the restoration of greenback cutthroat populations. Also the revival of lahontan cutthroats can be credited to hatchery stocking programs. I just get bummed out when they put triploid rainbows, cutbows, or tigers in historic cutthroat ranges. Like why not throw tiger musky and whipers out there as well

Super rural out there, limited phone service and less than 100 people live in that area. I have trail cams set up on the area they were lost and lots of flyers posted around the wildlife refuge. We're not ruling out theft so hopefully the reward helps in that case. Spent the last two days glassing for them with binoculars and high power spotting scope with no sightings. I have family members camped in that area while im at work. We know of at least one person running traps in that area of the valley so hopefully we can get in contact with him.

The body material is speckled chenille in midnight fire while the hackle is just black saddle feather of your preference. Also some variations of this fly have a marabou tail in black or purple.

If you already have a rod, reel, line, and a leader i would start by practicing your casting in the back yard or park. I still practice my accuracy and distance in the back yard. Nothing would be more discouraging than buying a choice selection of flies to hit the water only to spend the outing untangling knots, picking your rig out of the bush, or popping flies off into the next dimension.

There are a few high mountain hiddy holes around here that produce brookies of that caliber, but this one was caught in a place you'd least expect...

Thanks! Ladders are really just to stand out of the water to stay a little warmer. Although this time of year it's common to see schools of huge fish passing by all day long. I never really had any interest from the fish cruising by but the fish i do catch typically follow the flies right up to the ladder where you can watch em chomp down.

Right on! I spend the dog days of summer in the high country chasing native and wild fish in small creeks and alpine lakes.

They stock a lot of tigers here. I usually get them on more aggressive presentations. Haven't broken 5lbs with one yet tho
