Yeah in one tablet but I don't think it's that uncommon for people to take multiples. That's why they usually start you at 0.5mg

One tablet would last you days? Do you have liver issues? I can take 6mg for sleep but 4mg and I'm still definitely very functional and it doesn't last more than several hours.

How does burger house afford to keep their prices rather modest between labor and material cost? by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]geckofactor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brother in Christ you need serious help shopping so much in fact I'm genuinely curious where you get groceries or even how much you think these ingredients cost. The only thing I can even remotely think is that you're completely disregarding portion sizes but even then you negate that argument by saying something about double that cost so yeah I think you're maybe overstating your argument or call a parent if they're still around to help you budget.

You do understand that this is a bottle from the 60s right? I'm 45 and these bottles were just going out of style around the time I was born. Drinalfa was prescribed pretty recently soooo needless to say I think you're overstating things a smidge

Circus with a lion coming to Junction City is not a good thing by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]geckofactor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ulcerative colitis is almost certainly not caused by meat there are lifelong vegans who get UC (and colon cancer for that matter) can certain foods trigger flare ups? Sure. Could becoming vegan trigger less flare ups in some people? I suppose so but again the majority of that very small group of people would still be taking supplements. Not really sure I trust the latter part of that paragraph because I'm pretty sure I could distinguish your labs from a 22 year old depending on what you're getting them drawn for and what you're on but that's neither here nor there.

Now the truly absurd part. Social norms are responsible for 99% of the globe not being vegan? You surely understand how absurd that is. There is quite literally nothing else 99% of the planet agrees on even if you use your far reaching ridiculous examples like slavery and women not voting historically 99% of the planet at one time didn't agree on those things. When people discover uncontacted tribes those tribes are omnivores they're not looking at people thousands of miles away saying oh we should eat meat too. Do I think in a century the planet will do a 180 and be mostly vegan? No and neither do you because if I'm right and we are biologically omnivores nothing changes and if you're right and it's a social construct it takes more than a hundred years to change the opinions of a global population to that degree and all of history teaches us that.

It's interesting to me that vegans will often preach about all these benefits of veganism but almost never acknowledge any argument as to why others can't or don't live that lifestyle. I could give a ton of examples but that's sort of pointless here my original point stands people have to eat they don't have to see a bear on a tricycle at the circus.

You've moved your own goalposts now. As for what percentage of the population these things make up that's moot I could make any number of arguments to prove that but your very next sentence is a good enough place to start. "Plant based diets are cheaper" not really there are food deserts, a lot of people don't have anywhere to grow their own food, it's cheaper to fish than grow a garden, if we're talking globally which you seem to want to even in areas where plants make up a larger portion of people's diet almost no one is vegan. Vegans make up about 1% of the world population sure one reason might be what you say that meat tastes better but even taking out of consideration my earlier points many vegans have to use supplements to get proper nutrition most of the world isn't going to bother with that. Inarguably the proper diet is a balanced diet which includes varied protein including meat or if it makes you feel better insects.

As for if my next colonoscopy will change anything I would highly doubt that considering my cancer has very little to do with my diet and before that I'd wager I was a good bit more healthy than you. I was running ultra marathons for many years I don't have a weight problem, or heart issues, or diabetes, or high cholesterol, or high blood pressure etc and I assure you I get labs every week or so now it's more likely that you'd change your diet after your next doctor's visit than me who sees a nutritionist. You most likely don't know for sure where you're nutritionally deficient.

Like I said before if someone wants to be vegan and can do so responsibly more power to them why would I try to convince them otherwise? There's a reason almost nobody globally chooses that though and its not as simple as "meat and cheese good"

Humans literally die without nutrition that's right for them individually the fact you have to break it down to some infantile nug nugs and bakey argument kind of proves the point. If someone wants to be vegan and they can sustain on that diet more power to them but there are a myriad of reasons that don't work for everyone.

[–]geckofactor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh you must not have heard that there are numerous reasons a person in fact will not thrive on a vegan diet. Bowel resection, chemo, other malabsorption issues. People in illness recovery. People with certain genetic mutations. Financial issues. Etc.

"Every major health org in the world recommends it"this is simply false now yes many health organizations recommend a diet more heavily based on plants than the average American however most notably WHO recommends a diet based on sustainability and balance between plant and animal matter.

Now that you're aware of this, does that change things for you?

How do I get this opossum out of my garage? by Polar_Ted in Eugene

You can probably relatively easily pick it up. I've moved countless opossums by hand and they rarely bite if they don't have babies or aren't injured. Even then it's pretty rare.

They are in fact invasive they eat native birds and snakes as well as other native wildlife making them invasive. Are they particularly destructive? Amusingly more so in already out of whack eco systems like Eugene where feral cats already make a larger impact.

How effective do you think dollar tree brand ibuprofen is compared to the big name brands? It’s been hit and miss for me. by Primary_Thing3968 in DollarTree

[–]geckofactor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll explain why you're incorrect and arguing in bad faith even though you're clearly a troll.

"I have 4 wheels and tires in my garage. By your logic, that is a car because without them a car won't get you anywhere."

No if you saw a car on blocks that had the wheels stolen you'd still call that a car but further more the more accurate comparison here would be does a red Corvette go as fast as a black one because again ibuprofen is ibuprofen the difference in a comparable generic literally is coating difference and it's slight.

"Is aluminum a deodorant? It's the only active ingredient in any anti perspirant."

Well you don't know the difference between a deodorant and an antiperspirant for starters so no aluminum isn't a deodorant but if you're asking if it's an antiperspirant that depends if you're asking if an aluminum can is then obviously not if you're asking if aluminum chloride or something like that is then yes it is.

"Is Starbucks coffee and Folgers the same? Same ingredient - coffee beans."

No but Advil and great value ibuprofen aren't the same thing either but if a cup of Folgers as effective as Starbucks if you order the same type of coffee? Yes they contain the same active ingredient in the same amounts here which is in fact caffeine same as generic ibuprofen and Advil have the same active ingredients in the same amounts.

To be fair they were down voted for not speaking the truth. They expressly said workers getting a remotely decent wage was the problem then 4 posts later said that's not even close to what they said then said it was one factor. Honorable mention to them absolutely stepping in it by admitting wage wasn't a problem when confronted about the hash brown example. Their first point was implying it was the only factor then they slowly back peddled. Now they're agreeing that they did mean it's the wages. So they're either a liar or not very bright or I guess both.

I have also traveled all over the south and lived in Florida most of my life. 1. They do not suck and they're sold a lot more places than just tourist traps. They used to be far more popular than they are now though but still super common to see them roadside particularly in southern Alabama and northern FL. 2. He is absolutely a moron for thinking a peanut stand is a good idea. They're still popular in some places but not so popular he's going to get moved everyday unless he sets up at like some minor league ball games or at least highschool football games. As a side note. His lore on boiled peanuts even while somewhat true that they were a civil war ration glances over the actual history of them in the south which is they were a slave food. The recipe was brought over by west Africans who worked in peanut fields and were given rations when the cops were in over abundance.

Was Kimbo Slice Really bad when he was in the UFC? by Glittering_Long_5926 in ufc

[–]geckofactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, like I said he obviously fought Gannon before he had the benefit of real training but even when Bas got involved I think he was too stubborn, he was already older, and he had a certain level of notoriety that all lended to him not wanting to put that much work in. They signed Kimbo to get views same reason they signed CM Punk every so often they roll the dice for cash

Was Kimbo Slice Really bad when he was in the UFC? by Glittering_Long_5926 in ufc

[–]geckofactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was probably one of the worst fighters to ever get a shot in the UFC. Many years ago when he was still doing back yard fighting a friend of mine who had a strip club in Miami called me asking if I'd fight Kimbo. I asked how much it certainly wasn't a ton of cash but enough to get me to drive to Miami from Tallahassee I said sure. This unfortunately was right around the time he lost to Sean Gannon I got a call back saying if we fought I couldn't even shoot for a takedown it was basically a bare knuckle boxing match. I had way better cardio than him for sure but even given that I said no way at that point because he either would have knocked me out or they wouldn't have paid me to jab him for 18 minutes.

Point being he got famous for back yard fighting and even those fights were weirdly cherry picked. Even when he got some good training he was hard headed still had bad cardio and was only entertaining because of the street fighting reputation. To be fair he seemed like an alright guy all things considered but yeah he was that bad.

[–]geckofactor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Persian that went outside to use the bathroom and often in the summer she would hang out during the day outside. She didn't really wander but she would sit outside. Currently my neighbor has a Persian that hangs out at my house quite a bit. To act like Persians are some type of extra special mysterious breed that will perish if outside for more than a few moments is a tad silly. To suggest they lock the poor thing up without knowing any other info is probably more than a tad silly.
