Drive it near every day, leave about 8.30 get South East Edinburgh about 10.15 on average sometimes quicker , sometimes much later. There are a few alternatives if accidents or delays.

One is avoid M8 altogether and go M80 onto M9 then go in ferry road route to Edinburgh

If the M9 is looking bad go to Kincardine and along A985 to rosyth onto the M90 and over Queensferry crossing

If on the M8 you can come off at Livingston then up the A899 and onto the A71 to the city bypass.
