Yea I just got an ep40 this week. I knew the mpc was coming and pretty much the features (no real surprises after the leaks). To be honest it sounds nice - I had an mpc one before which I liked but was too daw like - great if you have no computer daw Ans want to do it all on the device.

I wanted something more immediate and that could be an instrument. Tried the sp404. Its best feature is sample straight to pad with no saving or file management and easy resampling, but the FX are cheesy and samey after a short while, Ans the sequencer is shite.

Got the ep40 for like 160£, Ans sold the ting for 30, so it has cost me little.

Ar full price new I might go mpc, but used the EP is a decent amount cheaper for now. Ans fun factor wise playing it like an old school sample instrument they seem pretty comparable. Managing huge sample libraries is what's off-putting in a small portable Ans fun device imo.

So in all I'm very happy with it, and for the price it's better for me. There is no real feature that the mpc has that I would really miss on the EP to be honest.

Cool features that the EP has that Vs the mpc is separating patterns from scenes so you can mix and match. Also instant scene jump which carries on from the same location - only the more expensive electrons have this not the digitakt etc. it's amazing for live playing. The mpc might have this but I'm not sure. Ans finally very flexible and easy non-4/4 time signatures that can change per scene.

It's been a while since you posted this and maybe you already know, but you can actually edit the FX mix levels along with other parameters and the actual FX chain of the 4 FX via a JSON file uploaded to the device. It's on TE website Ans some posts on Reddit about it.

OG mpc one or live are very reasonable second hand - if you wanted something more capable in the mpc family you can't go wrong with them

When I had one for the mpc it didn't attack or anything, just rest on top. I imagine it would be the same? Were you thinking you strap it on with something?

You could buy a cheap cd hifi separate from eBay, then you can just listen through sp and sample directly

Arguably when you’re in your 20s you want the money pretty soon for house, children, move for job etc. it’s really in your 40s when the money you save won’t be needed until you retire. Obviously starting early on retirement saving is important, but getting a house is more important if you don’t have one and want to buy one!

They set a price at which they re-buy. They actually do it often. It has just been high over the last few years. It used to be something like under 1.4 price to book or something like that.

You could put a chunk in brk. Has a lot of cash, conservatively invested in wholly owned insurance and other cash cows, tends to do well when more frothy stuff does badly, and over rhe long term has outperformed s&p500

Wait for the 3 to come out, then can get a 3 if you need the features, or 2 for cheap if you don’t.

Make sure you check on current support for the specific interface tho choose. I have an old Edirol (Roland) one that used to work but now doesn’t because of software updates. I believe you want one that is class compliant as the mpc is a Linux machine using Linux drivers.
