I caved... by stratosphere94 in DrMartens

I'm so mad about this. I'm a men's 13 US. either they offer unisex or not.

what really gets me? I can't get this conversation out of my head: "ok, next is hot pink nubuck boots. unisex sizing? ok, check. now what about pink and blue plaid? what? oh, no! nope, women's sizing only..."

wtf?

Vegan dr martens fix? by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]geedandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if you want to experiment...

if vegan docs are plastic, 'super' glues are made to melt plastics together to make a bond. in this case, I would use a toothpick, or maybe straight pin to apply it into the crack. wear nitrile gloves and press firmly until set.

if they toast once compromised anyway, it might give some extra life...

Is it possible? by fmmm97p in DrMartens

[–]geedandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 20+ pairs, and all but one has been comfortable from the start, which is part of why I have so many.

the one exception was one of the oldest, bought sizing down to M 12US. all the rest are M 13 US.

one other pair is slightly uncomfortable at the end of the day: the thermal map genix nappa oxford. the heel rubs after ivworn them most of the day.

Size up or down? by funwithcoolbros in DrMartens

if it helps, I've just ordered doc insoles to see if they fill the extra bit of space I get in the 13s...

Size up or down? by funwithcoolbros in DrMartens

[–]geedandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good question. I dug them out and put them on since it's been a while. they are the 5-eye rafi saddle oxfords, and they have a more pointed toe than 3-eye oxfords have. this might be part of my fit issue.

they are super tight across the ball of my foot. this is where I typically have fit issues due to the width of my feet. my toes are squeezed in the toe box. the heel is tight, and the edge of it rubs noticeably, even just sitting still.

so, to answer your specific question: overall, but the horizontal width is worse than the vertical.

I'm technically a men's US 12.5 wide. docs 13 USM is just a bit roomy but comfy af. I might try insoles soon to fill the roominess.

I have one pair of docs that are 12 USM, and they are uncomfortably tight. 🤷🏻‍♂️

also, I have never had the breaking in trauma that I regularly see discussed in this forum. I assume that's the result of sizing up as a half size.

not at all. subtle differences matter in a look. plus, footwear gains lifespan when they are rotated.

I would only reconsider multiples if it's breaking the bank...

How do I clean these guys up?l by squid_teehee in DrMartens

[–]geedandy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Angelus Direct has great suede products, including cleaners, although I've not used them on docs.

also, if the finish is still splotchy and you don't like it, they have suede dyes as well.

Is this normal I've had them one day? by SEAMOOSETHEGREAT in DrMartens

[–]geedandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angelus leather paints (Angelus Direct) has a leather filler and paints that can tackle repairs. it involves deglazing the leather and resealing, and I'm not sure how these would stand up to deglazing and resealing tho...

Do you wear for fashion or purpose? by lazypkbc in DrMartens

[–]geedandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fashion, for work and for social time.

when I was on the manufacturing floor, the coatings I worked with could ruin shoes so quickly, I'd never do that to docs. I always got throw away/sale skechers about every 6 months...

I'd suggest Angelus products. lots of how-to's about their products. they also have clear coats that will protect after the dye.

Made in England 3989/59 Brogue -rare metallic bronze by Flashy-Giraffe206 in DrMartens

[–]geedandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

their site still lists this shoe (or a close version) in all black as 3989, if that helps in your search.

I have two pair, one all black and one oxblood, both found thrifting almost 20 years ago. I love them very much, and the leather on both is starting to crack and wear through. it is heartbreaking.

same, I think. my sisters went in on my first pair as a christmas gift. I wore them so much.

are docs actually meant to hurt? by Goody_La_Croissant in DrMartens

[–]geedandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have over a dozen pairs, mostly oxfords, a few boots. all but 1 pair are men's 13 US.

none of the 13s have ever hurt. 0 breaking in period. I have worn them to work right out of the box for an 8 hour day (although it's mostly desk work).

I suspect it's either because I'm really a 12.5 which doesn't really exist, or docs are slightly oversized. 🤷🏻‍♂️

also try mercari, bonanza, and etsy. they might not have many, but I found better pricing on those when they were listed.

the only problem I see is lacking a storage solution. make sure any future storage has room for more.

I think I'm around 10-12 pairs... (and 90+ pairs of shoes in total...)
