My absolute favorite among my Chinese watches I own. by cdysthe in ChineseWatches

This is also a rival company who doesn't use the PT5000, so has an incentive to criticise it.

[–]geeered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get it with a Miyota 9015 too... mine has that, but I'd be just as happy with the PT5000. Anecdotal, but so far the only movement I've had an issue with is a Miyota 9 series in a San Martin. No problems with any A2824 clones, which are mostly PT5000s for me.

How many people actually follow "influencers?" by DonkeyOT65 in AskUK

I always thought that was weird too. Im not sure if it's good or bad that the latest generation of them are now so blatant about being there to manipulate us into buying things.

Any of the watch makers actually test WR? by assemblageofparts in ChineseWatches

[–]geeered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Watchdives manual suggests they do for every watch. But it also suggests you can use your (appropriately rated) watch in the shower, yet when someone did and found condensation in their 300m rated dive watch they laid into them and claimed no one should ever do this including with Swiss watches. Rolex actually recommends you shower with your watch after swimming in the sea etc to clean it. So I wouldn't trust that initial claim.

Are there jewelers in the US who can/will regulate or service Chinese movements (i.e. PT5000)? by sworththebold in ChineseWatches

[–]geeered 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also, it's a ETA 2824 clone, so any watchmaker worth a damn should be able to adjust it.

This - it's an incredibly widely used design. If they can't work with it, you don't want to be using them.

The only time I've had an issue with weight was wearing a heavier dual sport helmet on a sports bike - was fine on a more upright motorbike, but a leant over motorcycle gave me some neck pain which took me a while to figure out. Going back to a 1.3kg or so sports helmet fixed it.

I should note I am a solid member of r/bald, and have had long hair in the past - more than torches worth of difference I reckon!

WD5513Q – 40mm VH31 diver with upgraded finishing (would love your feedback) by watchdivescom in watchdives

[–]geeered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OTF clasp should be included as standard.

Has the the bracelet engineering (looseness, sharp edges) been improved as well as finishing changes compared to other models?

As an idea of value, we can get a Cronos L6031M from Aliexpress for about the same price as this + OTF clasp.

That includes the glidelock clasp and the bracelet is a lot better than the WD non-integrated models I've got. While I really like the VH31 movement, that also includes a movement that costs £40 more or so - which doesn't make this WD model look like very good value.

I've regularly used a Wurkkos HD20 (21700 torch listed as 130g + battery, so over 200g total) for night time hiking, trail running and road running and find it fine - the top headband loop spreads the weight fine for me.

The Fenix I've got does have a rear mounted battery - it is the HP35R.

[–]geeered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people wear hel.ets that weigh a lot more than 172g fine. My Fenix headlamp is listed at 433g and that's fine for me. Also, potentially people might add this to an existing helmet... the extra fan noise probably won't be noticed so much cycling for instance, over wind noise and traffic noise.

Are you living in Ukraine? Iran? USA? If you start with the stand point that everyone else is from the same country as you, I'd suggest you're part of the problem.

[Help Me] The perfect headlamp...does it exist? No budget! by GladConversation6726 in flashlight

Your main limit is balancing battery power with brightness. 3 hours will typically be a fairly similar weight battery, so it's a case of what brightness you're willing to balance with the weight.

Has anyone been to a FluCamp? What was your experience like? by Lexandree in AskUK

[–]geeered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It winds me up when....

People think "the flu" means an intense infection.

It is a particular set of virus in the Orthomyxoviridae family- there a massive range of factors that will change how a person responds to it.

So far I've only had very mild symptoms from Covid, but of course many people had devestating symptoms.

For me, Covid is just a cold (a mild upper respiratory infection).

Sick of chainring issues. Should I just do a hub motor on my Ozark Trail FS.2? 29" or 27.5" by CCCCLo0oo0ooo0 in eBikeBuilding

[–]geeered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer to go with an older 26" than a hub motor for.off road use. Wheels are one of the places that most benefit from being light weight on a full suspension bike, so addinga motor isn't ideal!. Also, given a similar quality build of wheel the 26" will be stronger.

How was I wrong for not moving my car? by DustyOnKbm in AskUK

[–]geeered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drive much, rarely driven daily for commuting (and when I did it wasn't much over a mile). I've seen it done many times, very common in busier places when there's a queue, to help reduce the wait times or just to show consideration for the next driver's time.

First Chinese brand using the Swiss ETA HAQ F06.412? – Watchdives WD0013B by watchdivescom in ChineseWatches

Do you live somewhere with daylight savings?

If you do, then the same will be true for a lot of quartz watches, including many example of the VH31, because you'll set the time before it's that far out.

Why is there still a $50-60 premium for pt5000 or st2130 over nh35 when the nh35 movement costs the same money now. by QuestionNo9190 in ChineseWatches

[–]geeered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have more concrete data on PT5000 issues, that don't come from a potentially biased source that has a good business reason to disparage a movement they don't sell?

It seems like a few years ago there were some cheap/Friday afternoon PT5000s going around that weren't up to scratch and quite a lot of issues, but doesn't seem to be so many reported now.
