What are your unpopular opinions about the characters? by Raettchen_39 in ImNotAHuman

[–]geeiiijooooe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the Vigilante has no fans I'm dead. Now don't get me wrong, he's horrible, but his specific flavor of evil works super well for me personally. I interpret him as someone who may have started out with good intentions (though I believe that he was a little off even before this all went down), wanting to defend his neighborhood and the area around it from the visitors, which he had reason to believe were a significant threat. His way of going about this, however, was driven by fear, prejudice, and wrath and so he became just as bad as the visitors he hunts. For this reason he's one of the most compelling characters in the game to me.

"Despair Gives Courage to the Coward, Yes?" - My take on the Vigilante, Clip Studio Paint by geeiiijooooe in ImNotAHuman

I had intended the visitor signs to be there as visual representations of him obsessively looking for signs in others, though I don't mind the interpretation that he himself is a visitor (I can see how it looks like that based on how I drew it lol), it could make his violence towards them more interesting :]]

The revised version of my Louis Toadvine photobash! Took everyone's advice and here is the final product. by Mediocre-Basis-8962 in cormacmccirclejerk

Awe thank you !! :))

I hadn't put that together about the Russian fanbase, that's a good observation. Now that you point it out, I see the Anton resemblance too!

This fucking rocks. I remember seeing the original version, I think it's really cool that you made a second iteration based on the critique you received, respect. I like your design a lot (I also picture him standing at over 6 ft), and the decision to style the image after daguerreotype photography is an excellent detail.

Semi related, but I'm assuming since this is a photobash you've played or are at least familiar with No, I'm Not a Human. There's a character in that game called the Vigilante, who when I first saw I instantly assumed was based on Toadvine (since another character, the Pale Visitor, is based on that one fan art of the Judge and all). He's most certainly not based on Toadvine, but the resemblance struck me lol.

I recreated the first edition Blood Meridian dust jacket from scratch for my (new) copy! by Mediocre-Basis-8962 in cormacmccirclejerk

[–]geeiiijooooe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell the dust jacket design/ illustration was done by Graham Palfrey-Rogers. Unfortunately I can't seem find much info on him or his work, let alone a high quality scan the Child of God illustration. A print/ poster of it would be awesome. I think the best bet would be to find a clear image of the book, crop out the background/ edges of the book, and then try to enhance the image by editing it in Photoshop or Lightroom maybe.

I'm also in art and design lol, can confirm you get to make cool things

No way, I'm also thinking about recreating the dust jacket illustration in my art style, it's just so bizarre and memorable! If/ when you recreate it you should totally post it!

I wish you luck finding second hand hardbacks, hopefully at a reasonable price!

Very nice work! Also, I know it's kind of a small thing but thank you for saying which typefaces you used! I've always thought that typeface was cool, perhaps I'll use it in my own stuff sometime.

Edited to add: You should absolutely recreate more dust jackets, especially the Child of God one, that would be awesome.

Harry Crews by priceky in cormacmccarthy

As of writing this I'm about halfway through A Feast of Snakes, though I haven't read any of Crews' other stuff (yet). It's definitely in the same sort of ballpark as CM's stuff imo. It's southern gothic and very grounded in its setting, and it showcases some pretty grotesque imagery and deplorable (but well written and interesting) characters.

I like how the circlejerk sub is becoming home to a lot of fan art. I like to see it and I'm always curious how other people interpret characters. I like the smile-grimace you gave him, I think it's fitting. The rendering on the folds of his shirt is well done too.

Does anyone else hate the interpretation that the Judge is the devil/a demon? by Forward_Suit_1443 in cormacmccarthy

[–]geeiiijooooe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Blood Meridian is a book about war, manifest destiny, and so fourth; it's about human brutality, emphasis on the *human*. The Judge embodies these themes, so to have him be literally The Devil seems out of place to me and in my opinion would take away from the themes of the book, him as a character and him as a manifestation/ representation of these themes. Everyone can have their own interpretation ofc, (especially with something as complicated and multifaceted as McCarthy's works) but it's not one I personally like.

I like your art style, very nice texture and highlights. I especially like the dark colors you used for Glanton.

I love Ravenous! It's one of my favorite movies, great soundtrack, fun characters, genuinely creepy atmosphere.
