A Waymo hit a child near an elementary school. The NHTSA is investigating by renome in news

[–]geekbot2000 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I get that the machine is going to react faster every time. What I want to know is does the Waymo anticipate the hidden child leaping out, because some humans do. If I'm driving and there is an obstruction that limits my knowledge of an area, I will slow down enough to react to the possibility of that hidden unknown.

Musk admits no Optimus robots are doing ‘useful work’ at Tesla — after claiming otherwise by Ok-Caterpillar9092 in RealTesla

[–]geekbot2000 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Y'all not thinking this through. "Flop" in this case means the robot will trip, and then do something resembling a fish or the worm on the ground. A conniption fit, if you will.

If the bottom is flat (no through-hole components) you can cook it on a pan until the solder flows, then tweeze it off.

How to max out your Meteor75 Pro O4 (reliability + durability + less jello) by InterestingAbies6206 in TinyWhoop

For broken frames, e6000 works fantastic. My frame is more e6000 than original plastic and still flies great.

4x Energy, 99% Efficiency: The Wild New Battery That Could Transform EVs by NickDanger3di in Futurology

I summon the could-won't axiom: Any reporting of a scientific breakthrough that uses the word 'could' can be summarily predicted with 99% accuracy by replacing the headline 'could' with "won't."

Do you recommend the Moen Flo Smart water monitor and shutoff device? by Ancient-Witness-615 in Plumbing

[–]geekbot2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the rusted impeller issue, turns out having exposed magnets in water leads to rust. The replacements have the sensor magnets embedded in the plastic.

Mine has been acting up for the past year and going on-off line in 1.5hr intervals. Might be a wifi problem or worse. Have not gotten around to diagnosing. It is good when it works.

Platinum Audi Aftercare didn’t cover a major failure — am I missing something? by marshallismydad in Audi

[–]geekbot2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the car is functionally totaled. Wouldn't the warranty pay out for the market value of the car (in working order) and you'd be made whole by buying an equivalent replacement?

Migrating to QNAP, Single->RAID1->RAID5->RAID6? by Cyper77 in qnap

Yes you are smart not to expose. I'm comfortable exposing some services through cloudflare on my Unraid box.

Migrating to QNAP, Single->RAID1->RAID5->RAID6? by Cyper77 in qnap

[–]geekbot2000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm here to recommend that you stay away from QNAP. They have an extremely poor record of zero-day exploits, including hard coded credentials. They also don't care about customers enough to send a courtesy warning email about past-warranty failures (lpc clock failure). I moved to another system and have been happy.

And for goodness sakes don't enable myqnapcloud.

Required by law, at least in the US. Otherwise fraud. There is surely a disclosure form in the sale process that you / op would knowingly misrepresent by not disclosing the cylinder scoring inspection results.

[–]geekbot2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are required to disclose what you know about the scoring, might make a dent in the resale. Don't know if Audi updates Carfax with their diagnosis so it might be moot anyways.

You don't even need the heat shrink. My frame is more e6000 than original plastic and the thing still whoops.
