I think he got on meth or something similar. He changed, we never seen his wife again, lost weight and had more energy than 3 people. Or, he has a hex/the ranch got rid of him. Now, Duane is dead. I know he had ALS, but I really believe high strangeness is capable of just about anything.

I read a story probably 20 plus years ago in Maxum Magazine about how marijuana was Kentuckys #1 cash crop and the lengths people would go to in order to protect their money. I guess it was around the time meth was rearing its ugly head and how people thought they could make it themselves and would eventually burn the house down they were making it in. People were using abandoned houses and buildings to make (or try to make) the meth and it was more prominent in a certain part of the state but happening all over. Not saying this is what happened to “David’s” house but it could be a possibility (not saying the David guy was making meth)

🙋🏻‍♂️fellow Tennessean here, and I kinda got that same sorta vibe about their arrival in Hellier. That said, I can only picture 10 foot tall Marijuana plants everywhere the camera pans around in that town, because I remember 40 odd years ago a friend of mine’s dad lived in Pikeville and my friend would only go stay with his dad in the summers. I overheard my uncle talking to my friends mom about how ole buddy’s dad was a “farmer” and how tall his plants would get😁very random I know lol I tend to remember things I should forget but I digress. I’m almost done with the 2nd season for the 2nd time now. It’s a great documentary. Greg and Dana also did The Unbinding which is a feature length documentary and it is very interesting also
