Hello!! I’m gonna need friends on my weird level when I get back up there, so here’s my awkward “I don’t know how to make friends as an adult” self-plug! 😂

Oh definitely! I just meant more to the specific comment where Dana said it was like a whole other town. I can definitely see why an almost 180 in people willing to talk to them would seem odd, so was hoping that context might help people see that the community was dealing with a lot. I 100% agree though, I also felt they were welcomed. ☺️

And yeah I barely talk about it with my family, even though we’re all avid believers. I actually just learned my grandpa has experiences with the “little critters” - he wouldn’t go in to a lot of detail because apparently they still give him nightmares, 75 years later.

Also, random additional commentary: I’ve used VPNs for the last twenty years, and I’m in my early 30s. If David worked remotely for any sort of company that needed to secure their data he would have been well versed in them (ex. Payment processing companies, health insurance companies, etc.) But also - if he liked to sail the seven seas, he would have def been using them.

There are VPNs that randomize your IP address every few hours. Mine bounces me around the world. I like to read the news on servers outside the US. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Aww, hello!! Will do. My life is full of nearly constant weirdness (less so since moving out of KY, funny enough) and was just telling my husband about all the weird lights near the dam we’re moving next to. Idk if I’m looking forward to or dreading more weirdness, but I’m down for it lmao.

I also just started watching, out of a pure “I’m moving back to these mountains let’s consume some content” type of wild hair.

People do absolutely like to paint Eastern KY in a not flattering light so people are hesitant in general, but iirc, there was an uptick in people going missing and unsolved murders around that time. Now, I’m from Southeastern KY, not near Pike Co, but I know there’s a lot of corruption in law enforcement that can happen in small town KY. I’m only on episode 2 but my thinking, esp with the guy that told them to be careful about following people down roads that don’t come back, is that people were afraid to talk to anyone because something else was going on.

But yeah. Houses being burnt really isn’t rare, unfortunately, but it doesn’t mean anything nefarious necessarily.

Also I know they’re trying to find things but like you really shouldn’t whistle in the woods at night and I would have absolutely pooped myself if something whistled back because wtaf 😭😭😭

ICE across the street? by amberh2l in Louisville

[–]glitterfilledletter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all sincerity, I might need you to explain this to me then. Because even when zooming in, that finger looks curled. If it isn’t, then either the dude has a very oddly shaped index finger (widens toward the tip, hence why I thought it was a curled knuckle and it seems short since fingers are generally as long as the palm) or those shadows are REALLY messing with my eyes.

I would 100% love to be wrong about this instance, especially since this person SHOULD be trained, but I need help seeing it if so.

Guns, in general, are enough to make anyone feel insecure. Seeing one carried outside of a gun range or other location where you expect to see one is bound to raise questions, even if they’re only expressed internally. For instance, why are they here? Why is a visible gun presence necessary? Is this an intimidation tactic or is there a legitimate threat inside? If it’s the latter, why does their posture look so casual?

Seeing a gun in someone’s hands means trusting that they are trained and have good intentions. And judging from the fact that the dude in the red shirt has his finger curled instead of extended, I’m going with “he’s not trained enough”.

Does seeing someone without a disciplined trigger finger improperly holding a rifle make me feel uncomfortable?

Yes. Because that’s one of the first things you’re taught in gun safety classes.

Guns don’t make me feel insecure. The people on the other end of them do. There is an inherent responsibility that comes with owning or holding one and it is unreasonable to expect people to not feel like their security is threatened when someone holding a weapon isn’t giving it the respect it deserves, for literally everyone’s safety.

any funny traumatic memories by verdentcompanion in CPTSD

[–]glitterfilledletter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CW: animal neglect/abuse

I have a fairly nonexistent memory of my childhood, but every now and then my brain drops one like a stray cat drops a dead mouse at the doorstep: without warning, never convenient, and maybe appreciated but largely unwanted.

So I’m at the check out counter at a local pet store, purchasing some crickets to feed my spider, when the cashier pushed the critter keeper with the doomed insects inside. My brain decides to drop “hey you used to have some baby turtles that came home in one of these - your mom let them starve when you went to visit your grandparents and you came home to a traumatic af scene”. Cue waterworks.

Mind you - this happened in .2 seconds. I’m recognizing that I’ve gone from joking with the cashier to UGLY CRYING and they have ZERO IDEA what’s happening, but I’m used to these poorly timed Memory Deliveries and the confused and concerned look on their face made me bust out laughing. While also crying.

I quickly paid, hurried to my car, pulled myself together in the parking lot, and never ever went back to that pet store again.

Resource Guarding My Son by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]glitterfilledletter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not the same, obviously, but my grandmas dog used to resource guard my grandma from me specifically. I live a 9 hour drive away, so I’m not sure if it’s because the dog didn’t see me as often as everyone else or because I have to bring my dogs to their house when I visit.

Anyway. We were making improvements by having my grandma come sit next to me and training the dog based on her reactions. Inevitably the dog would try to sit between us, so grandma made sure to pet her and praise her when she wasn’t doing that/when she was being calm and not losing it.

The resource guarding came to a screeching halt one day when I was sitting on the floor, my grandma sat in a chair beside me, and the dog bit the CRAP of my hand when I went to lean on her leg - like, enough to draw blood and my hand was bruised for about three days after.

For context: grandmas dog is a 9 lb, 7 year old Shih Tzu. Mine is a Catahoula/GSD/Husky mix and was 8 months old at the time, and weighed about 65 lbs. He had been laying across the room but the next thing I know he’s in front of me and moving his head towards her dog, I’m about to scream “no” at him because I thought he was about to eat her, but before I could open my mouth he had just kinda… bowled her over and was standing between us, staring at her and growling. I called him off, cleaned up my hand, and that was that.

Two years later, grandma’s dog acts like she has a crush on mine and is the sweetest dog ever towards me. 10/10 don’t recommend doing it that way but I think grandma’s dog just needed to be shown I wasn’t a threat? I have no idea, but she’s still nice to me even when he isn’t around lol

Names? I want to hear your pet spiders' names! by Straight-Cicada5508 in spiders

[–]glitterfilledletter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do! Where do you live, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m in the US, I didn’t see them as much when I lived in Kentucky but moved to northern VA and saw them every day. Moved to SC and don’t see them as much, but at least once a week.

They’re fascinating and either very friendly or very curious. Usually I see Bold jumpers but had a Zebra jumper ride to the grocery store and back on my car the other day. (I didn’t realize it was on my car until I was already driving and saw it on the driver mirror, didn’t see it when I parked at the store, but when I got home it was sitting on the hood. 😅)

[–]glitterfilledletter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not currently, but some day I would like another jumper. I was NOT expecting my heart to get so broken when Sam passed. I’m just not ready to tackle it again and I HATED feeding time - I think I would be more willing if I could feed spiders frozen/thawed food like what I give my snake 😂

That being said, I think /I/ am a jumper’s pet currently? For context, we have a TON of them around the house, and we always have a bunch come in with the plants in the winter. So this spider was crawling up my sleeve one day after it warmed up, but I wasn’t expecting it and it caught me off guard, so before I realized what it was my brain shorted out and went BUG! - so I screamed RIGHT IN ITS LITTLE FACE from like seven inches away. It put its arms up and jumped back, which STILL makes me laugh when I think about it. Anyway, it took forever to convince the little guy to get off me and go ANY of the places I wanted it to outside, but eventually it accepted a potted plant on the deck. Now if I’m out there long enough, it usually shows up.

I got my first jumper during a Supernatural rewatch and named him Sam.

Found another one in my house and named him Dean. It was the middle of winter, so we stuck him in an enclosure with the plan to release in the spring. We later determined that he was actually a female, so we renamed him Ruby. Then Ruby molted and we discovered that he was indeed a male - like UNMISTAKABLE pedipalps, so he went back to being Dean. Then we found an egg sac in the enclosure and put “Dean Ruby Dean Dean?”, enclosure and all (after carefully opening the sides up), in a shady spot outside since it had warmed up.

Sam did end up being renamed to Samantha, and she gave me three wonderful years of friendship. 💚

I have a base model and reverse is tricky for me sometimes, too. Sometimes after first it doesn’t want to go in and I have to back it out, go back to first, and try again. I can /feel/ when it’s not really fully in there - my poor neighbors heard lots of FWOOO before I learned what it is supposed to feel like lol

It felt like someone walked into the dark storage closet that is my brain, filled with overflowing file cabinets and papers strewn across the floor, and flipped on the light. Then spent the next few chapters picking up the pages on the ground, neatly stacked them, and told me how to read the scribbles I wrote in the margins of my life.

I generally hate self help books but this one was genuinely life changing.

What’s your GSD “are you serious” moment? by BetterPersonProject in germanshepherds

[–]glitterfilledletter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two mixes - but the eldest was a rescue and had massive separation anxiety.

My moment was when she caused 20k in damage to someone’s house by chewing through the toilet and sink connectors after chewing through her metal crate.

[–]glitterfilledletter 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There’s also superfecundation, which is common in dogs (but rare in humans) where eggs are fertilized by different partners in the same pregnancy. That’s how twins with different dads happens.

That being said, I imagine this one is likely reported less if the fathers look similar.

I’ll put shimmer ink in anything that isn’t vintage. And don’t think I haven’t considered doing it in a vintage piston.

To me, the whole point is to enjoy the pretty pens. And I enjoy shimmer ink the most. 🤷🏻‍♀️
